Fast Cars and Beautiful People

Erik paused in front of a full-length mirror in the penthouse he leased for whenever he had business in New York City. He frowned at his suit, concentrated for a moment, then considered the effect the change had on his look. Satisfied, he tucked in his handkerchief, grabbed his keys, checked his wallet, and then headed out of the apartment, arming ( Read more... )

The fey girl was in the hallway in the teacher's quarters because she wanted to talk to Mr. Drake about the vents in the building. He was the most amiable teacher in the building and perhaps the least suspicious. So Megan thought. Megan never though far beyond the next day, if then.

Of course, she stopped in the middle of her track when she saw the infamous Erik Lensherr. She literally stopped, her wings caught in mid flap.

He looked at the girl for the few moments before gravity reclaimed its hold on her. "You should be more careful, Miss..." he said, offering his hand to her to help her up.

"M-Megan." She wasn't quite stuttering due to fear. Hardly that. Few things scared her. But many things shocked her. "...you're a scenario in the Danger Room."

"Probably." he said with a kindly look. "I'd be disappointed in Charles if I wasn't." he added a moment later.

"There's no need to be quite so startled, Miss Megan." he said. "You're in no danger from me. Nor is anyone else here, at least for the moment." he clarified.

"For the moment... that's a fine thing to say to a 15 year old girl who's been indoctrinated that you will come swooping from the sky and pluck out our hemoglobins when we're not careful!" Pixie noted indignantly.

Erik's lips twitched in a repressed smile at that. "Your hemoglobins would serve you much better on the inside, where they belong. I have my own, I have no need for yours." he said with another repressed smile.

"You shouldn't believe everything you hear, Miss." he said politely.

"And what should I believe, hrm? Wikipedia isn't very kind about who you are, either." She tried to sound her best to be indigent. He didn't seem quite so awful as the scenario suggested or the stories about him that was passed between the students.

He could fix that. "You might try asking me what you want to know, rather than relying on the accounts of others." he pointed out diplomatically.

"Samuel Guthrie would be a good source of firsthand information. Charles Xavier would be another. Ororo Munroe a third. All of them I consider friends, all of whom I worked alongside for years."

It hadn't occurred to Megan to ever speak to the teachers about Magneto. She should have asked Mr. Summers, oh would she LOVE to ask Mr. Summers about it. But apparently she never got into that much trouble. "I suppose I could."

"Is it true you can hold people still and stop their blood flow? And uh..." She paused and looked at her feet. "... you really did plan to switch the poles? And uhm, you were apart of the Hellfire Club? Because I thought you had to be rich and wear skimpy clothes to be in the Hellfire Club. Unless if you are really rich..."

"It's ... complicated." he said with a helpless shrug. "I have done many things." he said, condensing a fifty-year-plus career as a mutant terrorist freedom fighter into a pithy statement. "But yes, I can do those things. Yes, I once had. Yes, I allied the school with the Hellfire Club for our mutual protection. It was a poor decision on my part, one that did far more harm than good."

"Oh." Well, that was a development she didn't suspect. Heck, most adults danced around questions like that. "... so why are you on the campus?" She did want to ask why no one was calling the police. But then again, mutants handle their own. She suspected that belief for a long time.

"Because I am taking Rogue to the ballet." he said simply. "No other reason for that - and to say hello to an old friend."

"Oh." Somehow, Megan was suddenly disappointed Erik was not planning to wipe out all the data disks at the school. "Uh... have fun, then?"
