There were a number of condemned or abandoned buildings in New York, but relatively few former hotels - those sorts of places tend to be refurbished until the day they're torn down. Only one of those few was the current home of the Russian newcomer to the NYC mob scene, and it is to that building that Spider-Man goes, seeking an audience.
