You Can't Run From Your Past
The first week of retirement was hell.
Natasha had been bored out of her mind despite getting settled into the small two bedroom house she rented. Television held no interest, neither did books. Rock climbing was the only thing that had managed to keep her attention for any length of time. Unfortunately it could only be done when the sun was up.
There had been a few moments when Natasha had almost walked out of the house and headed back to New York and go back to work. But she didn't.
The second week wasn't as bad as the first.
Natasha figured she just needed a little time to get settled into a daily routine and into her new home. The days were spent climbing and at night she soaked in a hot bath for at least an hour. Retirement wasn't such a bad thing.
Now she was back in New York, but she wasn't here to go back to work. She had come back to collect a few things from her apartment, mostly her favorite books and some more clothes. The temptation to check in with SHIELD or the Avengers was small enough that she could ignore it.
The Black Widow was retired.
