Logan's already there, a half-empty beer accompanying the pile of chips in front of him. He grins up at the grizzled SHIELD commander. "Ready ta get yer tail whipped, Fury?"
"Geez." Nova would have been rubbing the back of his head had his helmet not been on. He took a seat. "Looks like I got thrown to the sharks by whoever did the seating arrangements."
And not just because Wolverine and Fury were probably going to kick his ass.
Best play up the rookie card, and hope the helmet helped hide his face a little--not that he had a bad poker face. He had a good enough poker face that he didn't really need the helmet and he'd won a fair few games. Only problem was he was a little out of practice, and at this point, was better at Adaz, which was essentially Baluurian Poker, or Zin Kla, a Kree game.

The TV cut to a pre-recorded interview.
"I'm not exactly the best poker player, but I figure it was worth a shot." And it was good publicity. "Besides, if I can read tells on other guys wearing full face helmets like mine, I bet I'll be fine playing against other humans for once," he said with a laugh.

He chuckles. "Ya just got lucky." A hand reaches for his hole cards once the cards are dealt, sparing them a brief glance before a few chips are tossed into the pot.

Namora orders a Mai Tai with a quiet "thank you," and examines the players around her. This is why she loved playing poker during the war...all those men.
Nova is a pup, and in her Nita's capable hands, which likely explains some of his nervousness. Sadly, this is not the venue to inform him he has little to fear from her so long as her daughter remains happy.
Now...these other two...this "Wolverine," is quite handsome and plays like one who's seen much of the world. As for this "Colonel Fury..." She regards him with a glance as she picks up her cards. "Fury...Was your father attached to the Howling Commandos by chance?"

Her eyes light up and there is a small smile. "You have aged...extremely well." There's the mildest of flirts in her regal voice. "I am glad to finally meet you. I was in the Pacific theater."

Nick smiles, a rarity for him. "Thanks, honey." He picks up his cards and looks at them, his face not changing. "Pleasure's mine. I was in the Pacific theater as well. Surprised I didn't run into you. Would've remembered if I had."

"As would I. I followed your platoon's work, but I was needed for more underwater efforts, I'm afraid. It did not bring me to the surface often." Her smile widens. "But the times I could be with others it was often like this. Cards, drinks, the company of good men, and dancing. You learn to treasure small moments of fun in work such as ours."
Re: Table One:shield_topdogAugust 11 2007, 05:07:39 UTC
"We all did what needed t' be done," Nick says as he studies his cards. Occasionally he looks up and looks across the table at her. He nods. "Yeah. What we do isn't pretty an' we all need the downtime once an' awhile."
He carefully studies the faces sitting at the table. If anything, his long life has taught him that one could learn a lot by reading a person's face. Poker is where it paid the most.

Pleasant conversation, but she knows the "taken," flag when it waved. Wolverine seems to be smiling to himself and silent. She spares a quick glance to another table in the game and thinks about dancing.
"Nova," she nods to the young man, trying to suss out his mood. "I believe it is your call."

"What? Oh."
He flushed just slightly under that helmet. Okay, no more sneaking peeks at Nita like some lovesick schoolboy, especially when he was sitting at a table with her mother and two other WWII vets (hell, for all he knew Wolverine had served in the Civil War--there was no telling how old the old bastard was) who had been playing the game since before he was born.
"Three hundred in the pot." He tossed his chips in.
Agent Fury, head of the Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law Enforcement Division, better known as SHIELD.
