THE END IS HERE!

The banner waves over the bank of cash registers. Behind them, precious cargo stacked in sealed crates. They can't sell any copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for another 4 hours, no matter how often kids dressed as Gryffindors and Hufflepuff's wipe their noses on the counter and beg ( Read more... )

A bookseller who clearly threw a red and tan striped scarf over her "Sexy Witch" costume from last Halloween is cheerfully painting kids faces.

Luna happily made her way to the face painting line, fidgeting as she had to wait her turn. She wondered exactly what she'd have done. She watched to see what other kids were getting done, all she knew was she wanted something blue. Because that was her favorite color.

"How about a Gryffindor crest on your cheek? Or maybe one of the ghosts from Pac Man?"

It's late, which is making her a lot more honest about her painting skills.

"What's Pac man?" Luna asked, "I like the crest, can I have that?"

She giggles as she paints a crest on the girl's cheek.

"Pac Man's retro. He used to be on this video game back when computers were the size of a van, but now you can get a tiny little Atari joystick on a keychain that plugs right into your TV. They have them over in the Toys and Games section. I think it has five other games on it, too, all for under $10."

Luna didn't really have a television but she knew that Mrs. Richards about it later, when she saw them they always had stuff like that to do. She sat as still as she could while her face got painted.

"Thank you," she said when the lady was finished, then it hit her, "Do I have to pay for this?"

She couldn't wait to show her Father.

"Oh, no! All our activities are free tonight! Here, have a free rub-on tattoo to take home. And don't forget to make your own edibile magic wand."

She leans in and whispers conspiratorially. "They're really pretzel sticks. You can dip them in five different flavors of icing then roll them in sprinkles or coconut flakes or mini M&M's. I think the lemon icing with the green sprinkles is the best, but it'll turn your mouth blue."

All of which really sounded good to Luna as candy isn't something she normally got that much of. "Thank you," Luna said again, "That sounds great!"

Now, she wasn't quite sure if she wanted to go find her father first or if she wanted to go get some candy first. It was the moral dilemma that any kid had to face once in their life. Time with dad... or time with candy.

With this in mind, Luna wandered off, rather deep in thought.
