The dark side of the clone.

Apr 02, 2007 13:33

The air's getting chilly in Cassidy Keep, and the news Cable is bringing won't warm anything up.

When the bodyslide finally occurs, Cable has returned, and he's brought Jamie Madrox and Roberto DaCosta with him.

Dayspring is in full-on military mode, and he wastes no time in letting it be known.

"Fall in, people. Life is about to suck."

cannonball, cable, domino, warpath, jamie madrox, banshee, sunspot, "the search for siryn", black tom cassidy, deadpool

"Oh, look, it's Tampax the Multiple Pad and his sidekick, Desi Arnaz!"

Suddenly, Wade is thrown into the corner with force enough to snap his shoulder.

"NOT NOW, asshole! Listen up. I'm telling you all right now, the job we have in front of us is going to be the hardest thing you people have ever done. Bar none."

"What, is Deadpool gonna sing?"

There was no way to resist firing a shot back in the merc's direction, but then Jamie's down to business.

"But seriously, what's got you spooked?"

Whatever it is, it's got Domino looking grim.

"Our best and only real lead points in a bad direction."

He doesn't want to admit it. It still feels like he's violating the trust.

There is no trust.

"Have any of you heard of Nate Grey?"

"Yeah, a bit. He was hanging around the mansion a little bit while I was there subbing. Was never quite clear on his whole story.."

"The story is this. He's from a dimension ruled by Apocalypse. He was bred in mutant herding pens by his version of Sinister and raised in a concentration camp. A product of the genetic material of Scott Summers and Jean Grey."

"I know of him, aye," Sean says. The boy's a telepath, and if he's the one who's hiding Terry, that would explain why Cerebra couldn't find her.

"What do ye think he'd be doin' with Theresa?" he asks Cable, fists clenched. Right now, he doesn't care if it's Apocolypse himself that's holding his daughter, he's going to get her back if it kills him. And by the sound of things, it just might.

"Boy's more than just a telepath, Irish. He's a fucking clone of our crusty old bastard right here."

Absolutely no levity in his voice right now, either.

"So there're two of you running around, Cable?"

Beat.

"What's that like?"

"He's not a clone of me. My mother was a clone of his mother."

That's all the attention he'll address to that. Wade's point isn't worth it.

"And he'll be the first to tell you he's not me. His sense of entitlement is off the scale, and since his childhood was fucked up, and the only father figure he had was Forge, of all people, you can bet he only listens to his conscience when it doesn't conflict with his selfishness ( ... )

"Você começou caçoar-me."

His arms cross over his chest with a small grunt of exasperation. He has just spent his last few waking hours with Madrox.

"So...basically, the only person able to hoodwink Cable is...himself...who has somehow transformed our Terry into his Terry and we have to go pry Cable's alt's new toy from his happy little fingers."

A smirk forms on his face that holds nothing to do with amusement.

"I love this plan! I'm proud to be part of it!" Insert eyeroll here.

"So you're suggesting that Nate Grey rewrote her mind?" Tom's doing his best at the moment not to lose control. It's stressful enough to be in a situation with Cable, Sean and Deadpool, worse that it's because one of the few people he truly loves has gone missing, and this news is almost enough to send him over the edge. He replaces panic with absolute stoicism. "And this is likely the only lead we have on anything."

And the more important question. "You scanned Sonique's mind. Were you in there long enough to see if that would be reversible?"

cassidykeeper April 3 2007, 01:53:55 UTC
"And if we kill Nate, can you manage to reverse what he's done?" Sean adds to Tom's question.

It looks like the two cousins might just agree on something for the first time since their shared childhood belief that remaining still every Sunday morning for Mass was, in fact, cruel and inhumane torture.

Warpath is - well, horrified.

"If you can't, maybe Xavier.."

Rewriting somebody's mind..

There's a slight mechanical hitching as his fist clenches and unclenches.

"The fact that there was anything to hide at all would suggest that Siryn wasn't completely erased. They wouldn't tell me exactly how she came to this world, but with this new information... I'll bet it has something to do with the psi-link the two of them had. They can be strong, and they can breach the most unlikely barriers sometimes. I won't make any promises until I see the full extent of what he's done."

"The kid does have a conscience. I've seen it. But he's in his mid-twenties. He has absolutely no discipline, rarely sees any need for self-control, and it's damn near impossible to ever convince him he's made a mistake. We'll have to convince him the hard way."

Cable knows he's going to have to do the heavy lifting in this effort.

"The worst part is that we'll be fighting Theresa tooth and nail as well. Sonique is utterly devoted to Grey."
