The Kids Aren't Alright
It's time for a shopping run, and Victor's uneasy. He's picking up the cheapest foods he can -- he knows how to cook for many people on a tiny budget; his mom was an expert -- but there's a man who's eying him in the corner. He's not sure if the guy's a perv or the law, but either way, he'd rather avoid him.
He pretends to ignore the man, moving towards the front counter with his small cart of goods. He's hoping he did the math right -- he'd hate to have to put the other can of beans back -- when he sees the man move towards the same line he's in.
And when he spots the other two men entering the store. There's something in the way they move that sends warning bells all throughout his brain. They're not moving directly towards him, but they're closing in, and fast.
And Victor knows, without a doubt, that he's in danger.
Abruptly, he shoves the cart forward, directly into the path of one of the men, then he turns and makes a break for the back door. The others should be meeting back near the camouflaged Leapfrog by now; once outside, he heads straight for them as quickly as he can.
He hears the back door of the store open as he runs down the alley.
"Stop!" a voice commands, and he hears a bullet riccochet off the ground near his feet.
He sprints as hard as he can, turns the corner, and makes a beeline for his friends and teammates -- with three men in hot pursuit.
