Helping Out The Family Business

Nov 24, 2006 06:52

"It was a pleasure talking to you, sir!" Julian's smile was about as real as the tits on the date of the man he was just talking to, but he wore it anyway. Even if he did over hear the guy talking smack about mutants earlier.

He hated these events, these corporate holiday parties. They were boring, the people were boring, their kids were a bunch of spoiled snobby posers, the food was expensive yet tasted like shit, and, worst of all, he had to 'pass' for human at these things. It was the latter part that bothered him the most. So what if he was a mutant? Not like he had any intention of killing them or anything. He constantly wanted to levitate just to freak everyone out, but reined in that urge.

Most of the people in this room were either business contacts or potential business contacts. It was important to the family business that he not scare them to death. So he swallowed his pride and poured on the charm, all the while choking back smart ass remarks.

He'd rather be at Xavier's.

Still, as he watched that guy walk away, he narrowed his eyes a bit. The man suddenly tripped over his own feet (apparently), stumbled into a waiter, and spilled several glasses of red wine all over himself.

Julian smirked. Asshole.

And people say he has no concept of subtlety.

He turned and continued to make the rounds at the party, looking for the next person to chat up. But what he wouldn't give to get out of there. Or have someone interesting to talk to, for once. At least most of these suits had some nice (surgically enhanced) eye-candy with them.
