Explanations and Apologies to a Despot

Since the talk with Rachel the evening of their arrival on Genosha, Alex and Lorna's time on Genosha has been relatively quiet; they've been allowed to keep to themselves, enjoying the sights of the island nation. Lorna's even taken up what seems to be a favorite pastime enjoyed by many of the locals - tanning. For whatever reason, Alex had expected that this particular excursion would have resulted in them being sequested to a medical facility so that a special team of doctors and psychologists assembled by his girlfriend's father could make certain there was nothing physically wrong with the woman. Curiously, it's been far more like a Sandals vacation than a prolonged medical evaluation. And while he himself is grateful for the opportunity to simply relax, to be distance himself from the trauma of the last few weeks, Alex Summers can't quite allow himself that luxury.

When they'd spoken the night before he and Lorna left, Scott hadn't exactly said that Alex was shirking his responsibilities or even that he was being irresponsible. The absence of such comments had come as something of a shock to the younger Summers. But over the course of the last two days - much of which has been spent on the sun-kissed shores of the island - the memories of the conversation with his brother returns, and Alex can't help but feel that, in all reality, he has abandoned his brother, leaving the cold of upstate New York for the ease and the warmth of the island. Apparently, Summers can't allow themselves to enjoy much of anything without heaping unwarranted guilt on their shoulders.

What had he expected to happen on this trip in the first place?

The fact of the matter is that Lorna is feeling better. Yes, she's been taking far more headache medication than is actually recommended - who actually reads the side of those little bottles, anyway? - but simply getting away from Westchester seems to have helped. The sun-bathing seems to have helped, as well; Alex has made a point of telling her how great her new tan looks.

Enough time has passed, however, that Alex feels it's time he had a talk with her father. Much as he is loathe to admit it, he owes the man some sort of explanation - maybe even an apology. They'd arrived unannounced in a military-grade aircraft with absolutely no flight plan and had disrupted operations at the airport, backing up flights for hours because of their unanticipated landing.

Thus, Summers strides into the government offices, stopping briefly to speak with the secretary outside Magneto's official chambers. Maybe Scott was right, he thinks. Maybe we should have waited until the Professor was awake...

Sir, Alex Summers is here to see you, comes the woman's voice over the intercom.

havok, magneto
