King Says Meyer Can't Write Worth a Darn

My sentiments exactly.

I have nothing against Stephanie Meyer other than she's selling cliched tripe that's been done over and over.  Gimme a break from the hottie vamps.  Please!

cliches, trash writing, tripe

I have to reply to myself that I'm being unfair to Meyers and I am, most likely, simply jealous of her success.

That being said, I'll certainly take back "tripe" but I'm afraid I must continue with the "cliched" part of the complaint.

The cliche may not be Meyers fault. She may be the original all others copy. However, the idea of teen hottie male vamps has been around since Buffy and, to me, it has become a cliche. If I really want to read the same plot over and over, I'd turn to Harlequin.

Now, I'll have the Romance writers all over my ass for that.

Here's my main complaint:

Every agent and publisher wants a "new, fresh voice" yet they are unwilling to venture into anything new or fresh. What's selling? Teen vampire hotties. What will the agents/editors want to see: Teen vampire hotties. What happens if you don't write about Teen vampire hotties? "I regret...."

Maybe it's my writing. If so, then I have no complaint. But if the rejections I get are because I'm not turning over the same old stuff that's already selling, then it's on them, not me.
