the more times i watch two-faced woman, the more i'm convinced robert alton is a genius. the chicachoca is brilliantly choreographed, you guys. why? because he uses garbo's own completely bizarre way of moving to the ultimate advantage.
instead of trying to force her into a polished, fred-n-ginger type of number (in which she would have looked utterly ridiculous, here's what's true), he's like, "...well, let's just modify the crap you do naturally and turn that weird angular posture and your freaky deeky mantis slash orangutan arms into a complex and bitchingly modern dance." DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS?! i have SEEN "dancing with the stars," yo. it is not easy to make inherently awkward people look badass on the dance floor. and garbo is pretty much a giant pile of what the fuck. and yet? THAT SCENE IS SO GODDAMN AWESOME. congrats, robert alton, ABC will be sending your tacky disco ball trophy over shortly.
