Hanging From Chandeliers

So a while ago Sarvat linked me to this. To which the natural response was "GANGSTERS! 1920s! PRETTY PEOPLE!" Then, in a shocking turn of events, and even though neither of us really has the time to do so, we started writing about really pretty gangsters in the 1920s. Welcome to Hanging From Chandeliers. Please adjust your dress before leaving.

Leave a town for too long and you start to forget what their dead smell like.

the gentleman
Archibald Croft
(as portrayed by Armie Hammer)

It’s not easier to put a bullet in a man’s head than to pay him off. It’s better.

Bribe someone and you take their honor. Kill them, and all they’ve lost is their life.

the heiress
Cordelia Croft
(as portrayed by Rosamund Pike)

She’s a great liar. Can talk a rosary off a nun and a bullet into a man’s heart.

the brute
Jon Sinclair
(as portrayed by Lee Pace)

Jon Sinclair is from nowhere and he’s going nowhere.

Someone said this once, behind his back or maybe in front of him, but either way they weren’t long for this world.

the actress
Andrea Tyler
(as portrayed by Mila Kunis)

Actresses lie for a living and prostitutes lie down for it.
She does both and can sing, so they give her top billing.

There's a lot of smells in this business that start to bleed together as you get on, one smoking into the other 'til you can't tell where one starts; perfumed furs, whiskey, leather seats, oil, burning houses, naked skin, each curling up into one puff, no differentiation left between them. But death likes to stand alone: it likes to make you stand up and smell it out. You have to learn how to really breathe to tell where it's coming from.
