Meta-ish thoughts on Scandal

Firstly: I'm not a purist. I haven't read all of the stories. I probably couldn't hold my own in a discussion with old school fans. In fact, I'm all for the recreation and reinterpretation of canon. I call myself a post-modernist (general post-stuff person). So I'm the person this episode was aimed at, aren't I?

I quite prefer the canon Irene myself for many reasons. And yes, I AM one of those old school Holmesians. Irene acts as a check and balance to keep our resident genius from getting too cocky. While she never shows up again, Holmes mentions her at least twice more, once as being one of the few who manage to beat him at his own game. The RESPECT is paramount there.
I can see not having her be an opera singer in an update. (However, a criminal- no. Just NO. ) I can see aspects of the intellectual relationship even in the Moffat version- after all, he is not HER type as much as she is not his ( AKA he does not realy have one as an asexual) . Moffat, after all, as a fan, is certainly welcome to his updated version. I just don't have to agree with him on it. Let us hope there is some meta-plot element going on there somehow.
Though I must say, I did quite enjoy Big Brother and his quiet desperation. But Mycroft has always been a favorite of mine... he is not quite as much of an iceman as people think at least not for his little brother. Creepy, yes, but not exactly icy. :D
