Yesterday! I was at a concert.
There is a mini-festival with chamber music this weekend in Helsingborg, which is almost where my school is. One of my teachers is organizing it (not alone) and he offered us free tickets to the opening concert. Only two people went from the school, and well, their loss.
It was a very varied program, first a piano quintet by Shumann (In E flat major, op 44), then some shorter pieces with an ensemble of flute, guitar and viola, and then another piano quintet, by Dvorak (In A major, op 81).
The first quintet was... well, I'm not overly fond of Shumann, and it was quite long, but the players were doing a fine job. I got a bit distracted by the first violinist, because he was huge. I wouldn't be surprised if he weighed 250 kilos. The violin almost drowned in his chin. He was good though, just enormous.
The best part was the middle bit with the guitar, flute and viola. The guitar player was really good, and he'd written one of the pieces as well. It was also some more modern music, which is always a good thing if you want to get me on your side :p And flute! She was also really good, and eight months pregnant! She even mentioned it, that we shouldn't be worried about the baby because it wasn't due in another month, and that she could play very well even though she was pregnant, she just had to breathe more often. I liked the viola player too. Viola is such an awesome instrument, I think I'm going to learn to play it.
They played a piece by Sergio Assad, who is mostly known as a guitar player. The piece is called 'Winter impressions', and you should all check it out. Here is the third movement, 'Fire place'. Not a very good quality recording, unfortunately.
Then there was more piano quintet. It was quite late by that point, so I'm not sure I was equipped to take in the music. The fourth movement was very confusing. I tried to listen to it today, and it still seemed confusing.
Tomorrow I'm going to a concert my school is having. The other composition student is having a piece performed, so it's going to be very nice.

The rehearsal yesterday went fine. We got a lot of praise, and I think it's going to be awesome to perform the piece, since I'm very happy with it. Didn't get a recording, but I'll get one at the concert at the very least.
Also, this not eating sugar thing is going... not incredibly good, but not bad. The problem comes when you have to go into a store. And sometimes you do. Today I needed to buy more tampons, and while I'm certain you can, in fact, live without them, I don't want to. So I have dark chocolate, and crisps. But I'm gonna put the crisps away, because I don't feel like eating them.
