Have you ever noticed that in kink-memes, maybe particularly in SPN-kinkmemes and fiction memes and the likes, that there are always request for a male character to have changed sex. For instance, in SPN: Dean/girl!Castiel, and so on. I wonder why this is? Because what they want isn't good fic looking at how Castiel would have been perceived had he done exactly the things he does except he was a girl, or had a girl vessel. No, what these people want is het porn. And you know, nothing against het porn, but there are female characters for that. Have they just decided that all the female characters suck and the only way the can get their smut is by changing the sex of one character? Or is it because they want to write a female character in a traditional, demeaning, house-wife way and feel bad if they do it with a real female? I know some people say they can't identify with female characters, and I call bullshit. I mean, talk about internalized misogyny. And if someone has theories I would love to hear them even (especially) if they say I'm wrong in my own theories.
And now for something completely different: I watched Sherlock. The BBC series that puts Holmes and Watson in modern London. Not gonna write a review except to say I liked it. But Sherlock Holmes in all incarnations is something sadly lacking in women. Sure, you can blame the source material, but still.
And for the finish, if I take those two thoughts and combine them, I get this: wouldn't it be interesting to write a female Sherlock Holmes? I mean one that is basically the same, high functioning whatever is wrong with ey, and see what would happen to how the world around em reacts. Say take the modern day version and change sex and gender of Sherlock. I think that person would have it much harder, because while there is a certain understanding that male geniuses are weird and have to take certain liberties there isn't even an understanding that there are female geniuses, in my experience. So please, someone with skills, write this. And no sex please, Sherlock doesn't have time for such things.
