he was the town football star. everyone hung on every word he said. the town loved him. she was a little different. she had black rimmed glasses and listened to bands no one else had ever heard of. nevertheles, they were in love. he asked her to marry him on the night of senior prom and she said she couldn`t. for in less than 3 months, she would be going to Harvard and him to Texas on a football scholarship. she said that she loved him more than words would ever express, but this wasn`t the right time for marriage. she told him it wasn`t a break up, just sayiing they would wait for marriage. four months, later with tears in their eyes, they said goodbye to each other, promising to wait forever. after a few months, they slowly started to drift apart. he called her every day and left messages telling her how he couldn`t breathe when he didn`t know where she was. he sent letters telling her how much she meant to him. she stopped returning his calls, and didn`t reply to his letters. she saw him on the TV every day, though. she saw what a star he was becoming. he was getting offers from every team in the NFL. she, however, knew that wasn`t the lifestyle that she wanted. so she wanted to let him go easy. she just gave him up evven though it killed her inside. she knew he would be happier without her to weigh him down. then one july morning, exactly one month after she stopped talking to him, she awoke with a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach. her room mate sat in front of the TV with a stunned expression on her face as the anchor man on the news delivered these words: "Such a sad day it is in Sports today. a young man who had such a great career in front of him was found dead in a hotel room. the police say it was suicide due to the deep slashes on both of his wrists and a single note they fouund on the pillow beside his dead body. the note was adressed to "still the one" and the only words it said was "I wasn`t lying all those times I said I couldn`t live without you."
