flybystardancerNotes: While this was a request, it was also something that I intended to have happening in IC, so we'll consider this as an actual 'update' of that bunny. You might remember I've had a few characters mention how Inferno was a 'tenacious bastard' in his pursuit of Red Alert's affections and you're going to find out why they did in this chapter.
Not beta'ed so feel free to correct me.
To say Sunstreaker was jealous was the understatement of the vorn in Sideswipe's opinion. In fact, jealous didn't begin to cover the volley of emotions flowing freely and carelessly to him through the bond he shared with Sunstreaker. Sunstreaker's mental images regarding what he would like to do to Moonracer were quite disturbing, but nothing Sideswipe hadn't seen before coming from his brother when he was upset like this.
Sideswipe didn't know what to do, though, he knew better than to pester his twin when he was in this particular flavor of bad mood, and at the same time he wasn't going to risk to say something when Bluestreak was right there with him and Moonracer. And being a smart aft to Sunstreaker about trying to keep his emotions in check so they wouldn't flood their bond would probably get him a fist in the face at the moment.
"This sucks," Sideswipe grumbled and leaned back against a wall with a cube of regular energon in his hand, standing far away enough from his twin and his companions so he couldn't be heard.
"What does?" Jazz asked and sipped his own cube.
"Sunstreaker is 'sharing the love' right now."
"Ah." Jazz nodded in understatement. It was common knowledge that the twins, coming from a single spark, shared a bond that allowed them to pin point each other's location, feel the other's moods and physical or emotional distress. It was also common knowledge among Jazz and his performer friends that the twins' moods tended to influence each other's, and so if Sunstreaker was feeling particularly upset his feelings would flow into Sideswipe who in turn became subdued and rather snappy.
"I wish I could say something but right now I'm just pinned here and taking the heat because he can't be damned to take the first step." Sideswipe grumbled and shot a nasty glare at his twin, half wishing he could hit the other or do some bodily harm through his glare alone.
Jazz chuckled and patted his friend's shoulder. "Sorry, 'Sides, gonna have to stand him like that for a little bit. When Blue's gone ya can smack as much sense into him as ya want."
"Blue can't leave soon enough."
Jazz smiled apologetically. Sunstreaker had to be feeling particularly upset if Sideswipe was that edgy and snappy. The slave performer spared a glance over his shoulder to the rather lovely scene taking place in the balcony of the Lambor's studio. Sitting across each other were Soundwave and Blaster, chatting about only Primus knew what. What made the scene lovely in Jazz's opinion was that Frenzy was curled up against Blaster for a short recharge, while Rumble was doing the same curled against Soundwave. Jazz sighed a little, feeling in good spirits just by the look of his friends happily sharing a family moment.
"Primus frag it all to the pits!" Sideswipe growled loudly, tossing his arms up in the air and stalked out of the room, visibly upset.
"What's his problem?" Bluestreak asked, watching the red twin stalk his way out.
Sunstreaker sighed heavily and shook his head, smiling a little at Bluestreak. "It's nothing important, don't worry, he'll be fine."
Bluestreak nodded and smiled back to the golden twin and focused his attention back on his chat with Moonracer, Sunstreaker tried his best to hold back another wave of jealousy, well aware that it was his fault Sideswipe was in such a foul mood now.
Jazz approached Soundwave and Blaster, exchanging a few words with Blaster, then began to discuss with Soundwave the pieces to be composed for Smokescreen's and Chromia's party.
Soundwave handed the recharging Rumble to Blaster and moved back into the room to present Jazz, Moonracer and Sunstreaker with the first tentative set of lyrics for the opening song inspired in the couple as per Prowl's request.
"Shouldn't Sideswipe be here, too?" Moonracer asked.
"Nah, right now we're just reviewin' the lyrics Soundwave's proposin', we'll deal with composin' the music later."
Moonracer nodded and peeked into the pad Soundwave was holding. After five breems reading the lyrics and exchanged opinions the mechs and femme finally picked one, adding a few minor changes to the selected piece.
A little later Sideswipe rejoined the group followed by a tall red mech. "Hey, Sunny, you're needed here."
Sunstreaker headed to meet up with his twin and their guest, Inferno.
"Hello everyone, how are ya all doin'?" Inferno greeted cheerfully, waving a hand before he turned his attention to Sunstreaker. "Ya said I could come to pick that piece I commissioned at this time?"
Sunstreaker nodded. "Yes, give me a moment, I'll retrieve it." The golden noble excused himself and left the room. A breem or two later, the noble performer came back holding a large sheet of metal in his hands, wrapped carefully with a layer of plastic. "Here you go, I hope you'll find it of your liking."
Inferno thanked the younger mech and accepted the canvas, turning it around so he could examinate the painting he commissioned. The other mechs and femme in the room couldn't contain their curiosity and moved closer to get a better look.
"Primus!" Jazz gasped in mild shock, coming closer to see the painting better. "Is that who I think it is?" He pointed to the smallest of the two mechs painted in the canvas.
"Ratchet? Yes, Jazz, that would be him when he was a sparklin'." Inferno held the painting up better to allow the other 'bots in the room to admire it. "It's a gift for Red Alert."
"That's beautiful!" Moonracer smiled, admiring the beautiful painting portraying Red Alert looking down at his sparkling, Ratchet, holding him lovingly against his chest plates. "Red Alert looks so content."
"That's the first memory I have of him," Inferno explained, smiling fondly. "The first time I saw Red he was carryin' Ratchet with him, I think he was headin' to the Tower. The look on his face made me fall for him right there."
"Really?" Moonracer looked from the picture to Inferno and then back to the picture. "But that's a long time ago!"
"Yeah, and he flat out rejected me big time when I first asked him out," Inferno chuckled but that expression of fondness remained in his face plates. "He said he had no interest in a relationship an' back then all his world were his work an' Ratchet."
Bluestreak made some quick calculations, gasping in surprise once he reached the total of vorns Inferno spent pursuing Red Alert's affections. "Primus, Inferno! That's a long time, how did you manage that?!"
"Under risk of soundin' borin' to ya all, I guess it was just real love right there. My spark never beat for anyone else the way it did for Red." Inferno shrugged. It didn't feel that long to him but once he stopped to consider Ratchet was now an adult mech and Ratchet's own nephews were young adults themselves he admitted he did spent quite a long time pursuing Red Alert.
"That's still pretty impressive," Blaster added, though keeping his voice low as to not disturb his recharging twins.
"I suppose it is, but the time span don't matter if ya get what ya want in the end. Red's worth all the time I spent chasin' him." The tall red mech grinned and set the painting down. "I better go back home, got work to attend to, an' gotta pick Red at the Tower later."
Sunstreaker nodded and took the painting. "I'll help you to take it back to your home, I don't recommend sub spacing it for at least another two orns."
"Thanks, Sunstreaker." Inferno nodded his thanks and turned to wave good bye to the group of performers and their guests. "See ya all 'round. Oh, and Bluestreak, say hi to Ratchet an' Ironhide from me."
"Will do, have a safe trip. You too, Sunny."
"Always do, Blue." Sunstreaker smiled and carried the painting out with Inferno in tow. Once at the gates of the Lambor estate, the golden twin transformed, instructing Inferno how to attach the canvas to the top of his alternate mode to transport it, and with that done the pair geared towards the red noble's home.
"So," Inferno drawled as they drove through the road. "When are ya goin' to ask Bluestreak out?"
"What?"
Inferno laughed a little. "Come on, Sunstreaker, everyone with a pair of workin' optics knows the kid's all over ya."
"I know that."
"So, when are ya goin' to ask him out? Ya like him an' ya know it."
Sunstreaker revved his engine with a little exasperation. "Yes, I think it has become very evident to me I do, in fact, like him that way. It just took me a Moonracer hogging his interest to realize that." he deadpanned.
"Ah, let me guess." Inferno chuckled with genuine amusement, but quieted after the angry rev of his engine Sunstreaker addressed on his general direction. "Bluestreak's all over Moonracer now and ya're not likin' the competition, are ya?"
"Humph!"
"I'll take that as a yes. See, Moonracer's a femme, she's a performer, she's a relative rarity for someone as young as Bluestreak. I'm sure it's nothin' but just him being curious an' interested in a perfectly friendly way." Inferno lowered his speed so he was driving right next to Sunstreaker instead of going a little ahead of him. "Besides, he's got no chance with her."
If Sunstreaker were in his alt mode he would've raised an optic ridge. "How would you know that?"
"'Cuz she's datin' Firestar." The younger noble could just see the big grin in the older mech's voice.
"Oh."
Inferno chuckled once more. "Don't go beatin' 'round the issue, Sunny. Ask him out."
"I will. I just wasn't sure if I liked him that way until now." Sunstreaker slowed down as they approached Inferno's home. The taller red mech transformed and removed the painting off Sunstreaker's alt mode.
"Thanks for the paintin', ya really outdid yerself with this one. Your payment was transferred to your account as we agreed." Inferno fixed the sheet of dark material Sunstreaker wrapped the canvas in before they left the Lambor estate.
"Thanks. Remember to keep it covered and away from harsh light sources for another orn. And you can subspace it after two orns." The performer noble revved his engine, turning around to head back home.
