Title: Tropique
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None I can think of
Pairings: Implied Prowl x Jazz.
Characters: Prowl, Jazz. Mention of Blaster and Optimus Prime.
Prompt: For the December Challenge of the ProwlxJazz community - Prompt: Tropical Christmas or Christmas in Summer.
Notes: I was going to answer both prompts separately but circumstances cut my intentions short. Somehow, part of the Christmas in summer slipped in there. Not my best at all, but rawr, I had to give it a try. I also thought Carly would be someone likely to introduce one or two Autobots to things such as Yule.
"Well ain't this nice?" Jazz muttered with uncharacteristic sarcasm. It wasn't the kind of playful, witty and smart-afted tone that was natural for him, but a truly unhappy and unamused sarcasm. "Why would Prime be sendin' us all the way over here? An' on t'holidays no less!"
Prowl made a non-committal sound, unsure of how to address Jazz's mighty wrath. "Jazz, we don't even observe their religious holidays."
"Don't start wit' the whole thing about the historical figure, Prowler. This ain't jus' about the good man any more! It's a tradition, man, a time ta enjoy with friends an' family. Even Decepticons don't mess around so much in these days." Jazz huffed with annoyance. He was looking forward to the Christmas party that he had spent more than eight months planning.
"Carly did invite you to be present for Yule, though."
"Yeah, an' it was nice. But that was a bit more..." Jazz struggled to find words to describe why it wasn't the same thing.
"Subdued than your planned Christmas bash?" Prowl offered.
Had Jazz been in his root mode, he would have shrugged. "I s'ppose. Guess I can still do new year if we're back in time." Jazz paused as his plating registered a gradual and steady increment on temperature. "So why Prime wanted us ta come all the way to Quintana Roo?"
Prowl, too, wasn't aware of the reasons their prime had insisted on sending them out so suddenly just the night before Jazz's Christmas' eve's party. It didn't seem reasonable to send his second and third in command out just like that, it had to be important. Yet, Prowl felt the nagging suspicion their Prime was up to something. "We will receive our instructions as soon as we reach the gates of the Xcaret park. We're supposed to meet someone by the name of Julio to let us know what's our exact destination and what will be required of us."
Jazz mumbled something in answer but remained quiet after that while they traversed the road to the eco-park. As they had been instructed, a short man clad in white was waiting for them at the gates of the park. "Are you the birds?" he asked as they stopped about a meter away from him. He had been instructed to ask for two 'birds' upon the arrival of two black and white vehicles, the disguises of the alien life forms he had been instructed to greet.
"We are." Prowl answered, neither of them transformed just yet. The man spoke with an accent that seemed quite similar to Jazz's own, and spoke with a somewhat long pause between each word. It probably meant the man knew enough English to talk to them, but did not use it often enough to have a clear pronunciation or be certain of what he was saying, making him pause on each word longer than necessary. "Are you Julio?"
"Julio, yes. So, Prowl and Jazz, right?"
"That'd be us." Jazz bounced once on his shocks in a manner of greeting. "We were told ya got our instructions?"
"I do, in fact. Please wait a moment." Julio headed towards a lush palm tree, bearing some of the biggest tender green colored coconuts Jazz had ever seen. The man picked a backpack and retrieved an oversized envelope. "I was asked to give this to you, and as soon as you've turned tail, I am to forget I even saw you." The man smiled nervously, seemingly torn between being anxious to see the two alien life forms transform, and fearing they would do so.
Prowl did transform wringing a gasp from Julio as he extended his white hand to receive the envelope. Julio did so, his eyes still wide with amazement. "Thank you, Julio."
"Y-yeah, you're uh... welcome." The man stepped back once he dropped the envelope on Prowl's hand, reaching to take his back pack and a lightweight jacket out of it. "I should be gone now. All your instructions are in the envelope."
Prowl nodded and watched the man head towards another vehicle parked not far from them, still in a little shock. "Man, we sure scared 'im." Jazz said as he, too transformed and reached to take the envelope from Prowl. "Let's see why we jus' gave nightmares ta the poor human." Jazz hummed as he read through the text. "...The slag?"
"What is it?"
Despite his visor, Jazz looked absolutely dumbfounded. "It says:
'Prowl, Jazz. I apologize for the underhanded methods I had to employ to bring you to this point. I felt it was the least I could do after a couple of important missions thwarted your planned visit to Australia and New Zealand to celebrate your bonding anniversary. I know you're both fine soldiers and took it in stride --even though Jazz wouldn't stop joking about missing the chance to see Kangaroos 'in technicolor' for a chance.' " Jazz paused for a moment with a little grin. "Hey, they'd be a nice alternative to see cacti all slaggin' day for a change."
Prowl shook his head. "Stop stalling, Jazz."
"Ok, ok, I'm readin'!" Jazz huffed and continued to read the letter. "Let's see... ah, here: 'Blaster insisted something had to be done to compensate your lost chance, and agreed to search for an alternative, and has arranged with a few of his contacts to present you with a couple of gifts.
You are to drive towards the KBC in Playa del Carmen, a friend of Blaster will be there to meet you and guide you towards your designated seats for a private concert that'll take place there on Christmas' Eve. After that, special reservations have been made for you to spend two days in the hot springs in The state of Morelos.
I hope you both enjoy this vacation and take the time to reconnect with each other. You are not only two of my best and most loyal officers and soldiers, but also two of my greatest friends, and this small reprieve is the best I can offer to you after all the sacrifices you make for the good of the Autobots.
Enjoy. - Optimus Prime
PD. We'll hold the Christmas party upon Jazz's return so he won't miss it'."
Jazz grinned at Prowl as he folded the card and inserted it back into the envelope, slipping the envelope into his subspace. "Well, waddaya know. A vacation jus' fer the two of us. Ain't this a nice surprise?"
Prowl chuckled and nodded, wrapping his arms around Jazz. "It is a nice surprise, indeed."
They transformed back into their alternate modes and drove away from the gates of the eco-park, deciding to take a drive around before settling for recharge on a public parking lot for the night. The breeze was fresh and relaxing, allowing them a very restful recharge despite their excitement. The following night they drove to the designated area in the beach, where a friend of Blaster had organized a private party and concert to celebrate the holidays. Much to Prowl's relief the musical range was wide enough that he found quite a few pieces of his liking. Jazz, of course was delighted. The patch of beach was far away enough from public eyes, and the darkened setting allowed them enough privacy and anonymous to enjoy themselves, sharing a dance close to the towering palm trees.
After the concert, Prowl and Jazz set off towards Morelos, a state near the central area of the country, where they were treated to a wonderful pool of thermal waters. It was far away enough from prying eyes, and the staff that tended to them left them be, only showing up if called. It had been wonderful even if both hadn't been particularly keen on having to leave their little piece of paradise to return to the coldness of full blown winter in Oregon.
"Ya know, we gotta do somethin' like this some other time." Jazz sighed in contentment as they drove their way to the Sonora desert where Skyfire would come to pick them up.
"Perhaps next year, if you're amenable and the situation permits, we could go to Australia and New Zealand as we had originally planned. It'll be summer over there during the holidays." Prowl suggested.
"That would be nice. But let's do it before or after th'Christmas party. Don't ya think I'm gonna let ya miss it!"
Prowl snorted. "Ah, my plans to avoid the festivities has been foiled."
Jazz laughed at that, nudging Prowl with his side as they drove together, feeling refreshed and content.
