We need your help...
Please! Please take the time to help out the staff and all of the detroit zoo's animals by writing to Kwami or Granholm telling them why we shouldn't close the Detroit Zoo. From what I understand the city of Detroit cannot afford it anymore and are raising prices of admission and laying off staff as a result. If this doesn't work out the zoo could be closed!!!

***I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on with the zoo. According to the deputy mayor we can expect layoffs to begin today. He was quoted as saying they would be issued to 150 employess, that is our entire kpr, vet and curatorial staff. He was also quoted as saying they will be closing the zoo. The city council is meeting again today to review the decision. I am asking all my friends and family to help us keep the zoo open and if possible make the transition to a society run zoo. We believe the only way to do that is by voicing our opinions to both the city council and the governors office. If you could take a few minutes and write down your thoughts on why the zoo should stay open and send it the following addresses I would appreciate it. Please understand that this is not only about saving our jobs, but the lives of the animals we care for here. Many of our animals are elderly and have medical problems. They most likely would not survive preshipment exams, the trip or adjusting to a new home at this stage in life. Many of animals, such as two of the lions I work with are rescued animals and no other facility will want them. So if you can help me out with this I would be truly grateful.
