This last semester coming up is supposed to be the semester of staying put. No more weekend trips to California, no big winter break or spring break trips, no more bouncing up and down the east coast between Boston and NY every other weekend. Until I sat back and realized, if all goes well (and I mean REALLY well), I could be in DC FIVE times this semester - which is the exact number of times I was in New York LAST semester! And THEN it struck me that of course I WILL be making a weekend trip to California for Bob's wedding in March! Talk about history repeating itself. Of course there is no guarantee - the only thing I know for sure is that I have to go in January for this PMF assessment day thing. If that goes well I'll have to come back in April for the career fair thing. And of course there are all these other optional and/or hopeful things like a State Dept. interview and the Fletcher career trip and this elusive AU symposium thing, so who knows. All I know is, staying put is so not my strong suit! :)
In other winter break news, I am STILL not unpacked, the thesis is sloooowly making progress, I am REALLY MAD at my student loan people, and I MAY have made a big decision about my fellowship application (but more on that tomorrow, after I hunt down a few key people). Also, Munich was eh, Born Into Brothels was eh, and March of the Penguins is To Be Reviewed tomorrow after I finally watch it! :) Finally, best line of the vacation so far: from the male half of an old Jewish couple at a restaurant in Chinatown on Christmas (the ONLY time and place such a scene could unfold), staring into his wonton soup: "Is that a matzo ball in there?!"
Haha.
