Alternative 80's

Just before Kat was to go back to college, I was at the public library picking up a reserve book, and the librarian handed me this electric pink box and said "Do you want to take this, too?" I thought they had made a mistake, when the librarian added "It's for a Kathryn P...."

I checked it out, figuring Kat had one more day to look at it before she left for school, and I could return it after that.

Upon examining it closer, I saw it was "Left of the Dial", a 4-CD compilation of 80's Alternative rock!

(Just around the time I got married, I was a big and active fan of Alternative/Punk rock. I would go into New York City and stay with my friend Ken (whom I just saw recently at my college fraternity reunion), and we and some friends would go to the local clubs and see some great acts!)

Kat recorded the CD's, and we listened to them on the way to Baltimore, and I listened with them cranked up on my way home!

I have not heard for years songs by R.E.M., Dead Kennedy's, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Violent Femmes, Echo & The Bunnymen, Gang of Four, Bauhaus, and the Psychedelic Furs. I also immediately recognized Bjork's distinctive voice and style in her early band The Sugarcubes!

Great stuff, I downloaded the CD's onto iTunes on my new computer! :)
