Post Graduation Parties
We as a family were invited to a couple of post-graduation parties Sunday afternoon. :)
They were both actually quite nice! The weather was perfect and both were outside. :) Both were with people we have known for a long time, since Kat was an infant actually! So we went way back! :) Seeing the graduates now and taking some time to think about things, I sort of marveled how time can bring such changes to a child's life--at the beginning with a newborn in hand, the future seems so incredibly distant, you wonder how you will ever get there, but each day passes and next thing you know here you are! :)
Kerrie's mom had put up a poster with pictures of Kerrie as a baby up through the recent past, and it was fun looking through these, thinking of when Kerrie was at our house playing with Kat, how she was full of good humor and spunk, and what a nice young lady she is today! Whenever I see her downtown she smiles and waves, which is so nice! We have a connection beyond my just being an offshoot of Kat, which is so nice!
In contrast, there was a junior girl who I know was at the prom and Kat knows her, and I tried to strike up a conversation with her about the prom. She was polite, but I could tell she did not view me as in her group of interesting people to talk to because she had mentally pigeon-holed me just as a "parent", and so sort of alien from her point of view in her opinion. I doubt she would recognize me if she passed me on the sidewalk (but we will see, I am sure I will see her around town at some point in the future! ;)
In contrast, Kat's friend Olivia, who is also a junior, talked with Sally, Kat, and me for quite awhile, and she looked me straight in the eye and you could tell we were connecting and she was engaged in what we were saying. :) Most of Kat's friends are like Olivia, and that is one thing that is so cool about them! :)
The house was very quiet today when I left for work, no one was scrambling to get out the door to go to school! Summer is upon us! :)
