If anyone has an idea on how to make money biking, let me know.

Meanwhile, I need to come up with a few hundred dollars to get through the next couple months.

Nonetheless, I plan to take some bike trips over the next few months. I think I'll start out with a trip to La Plata (dainasplashes, would this be ok?), as a warm-up, and then try making it out to ( Read more... )

Wow. How many miles do you think you can do on a good day?

I've done sixty, but under less-than-ideal conditions. I figure I can average seventy or eighty.

By the way, the map says there are ferries from right around Red Bank to Battery Park. How much is the fare?

From my house in Highlands, it's $40 round trip. The schedule is pretty limited, though. From Red Bank itself, you take a train -- which is more like $20 round trip.

That should work, since it appears they allow bicycles outside rush hour (very civilized of them!)

This would probably be mid- to late June. I'll keep you posted.

Cooliosity. We were planning on constructing and launching a satellite in that general time-frame anyway.

By the way, are you familiar with the Rocket Racing League?

I've met the guy who came up with it (who has the excellent name of Peter, by the way). His sneaky plot is to use this league to encourage development of restartable rocket engines, by means of making sure the race takes about three times as long as your fuel would hold out.

His other sneaky thing was to put additives in the fuel so that it would burn an exciting orange, instead of a boring transparent flame.

You met Peter Diamandis? Granger Whitelaw just started attending RBCC.

Yup. The space nerd community isn't all that big, so everyone can meet everyone else sooner or later. I doubt he'd remember me, though he might conceivably remember that he met a student from UMD who was trying to restart a space nerd club a few years ago.
