Well, in my habit of updating only once in a great while, I find now that a great while has passed and it is time to update.
I'm at college now, as are most people who don't go to colleges with a confusing quarter schedule specifically designed to wreak havoc with normal modes of life. (Don't worry, I love you anyway, brother dearest.) My summer went well. I enjoyed the research and felt I had something to show for it in the end. Being able to look at an old paper on the same Saturnian ringlets I concentrated on and now have results about 10 times more precise than anyone had before was nice. The Keck conference for undergraduate research will be in November at Wesleyan, and I will be presenting there. I hope it goes well, and I need to practice more.
The summer is over now, though. College has been quite busy, especially with three lab classes, and unfortunately I feel I haven't been making very good use of my time. I really need to improve on that; it has always been a weakness of mine. (Of course, I should be working on the chemistry lab right now.) I've also been somewhat sick and rather tired this past week, which doesn't help (and yet I stayed up rather late both of the last two nights, playing ping pong Friday night and contradancing Saturday). I also have an 8:00 am class three days a week, which is never fun.
About the only major activity I've been doing outside of class is fencing, which is a nice break from the work load. Thankfully, we've gained several new people over our pitifully low numbers last year, and as much as I'm not very good at it myself, I've been doing some teaching the newcomers. I don't think I'll be doing debate this year, both because I don't have time and because it's now meeting at basically the same time as fencing.
