On Thursday, I had a little Hunger Games get together with Stephanie and Miakoda so we could all nerd out together. ♥ We ate Hunger Games themed food, had a little photo shoot in the park, watched Winter's Bone (Jennifer Lawrence is in it, but it's also an amazing film), and went to the midnight screening of the movie. Here are some curry chicken salad sandwiches I made, along with blackberries to represent the nightlock berries from the book.
I also made Greasy Sae's stew, but left out the dog-meat for Koda's sake. :33 This version had potatoes, carrots, onions, and celery-- we let it simmer in the slow cooker all day. To the right is our version of Peeta's cheese buns.
For dessert, I made chai brownies for the first time and they turned out very fudgy X3
We didn't anticipate such a voracious crowd at the theater, so arriving an hour early to the screening was too late to get good seats; we had to sit in the one of the rows closest to the screen. Due to the awkward perspective, everyone's chins appeared HUGE and the action sequences were really difficult to grasp. I also really disliked what seemed to me to be an excessive use *shaky cam* throughout the movie. But overall it had some delightful moments, so I'm willing to see it again in a better seat so I can correct what I hope was just a sour premiere experience. If anyone else saw it, please tell me what you thought!
The next day, Stephanie and I drove to Mullica Hill, NJ for antiques shopping and tea. We stopped at my favorite place,
The Old Mill Antiques Mall, and found a lot of great things ♥ I bought a pewter cross necklace, a pearl belt, some miniature tea cups...
... and a bureau! This was a bit of a surprise because I didn't expect to find any furniture I liked, but I fell in love as soon as I saw it. I'm going to use it to hold my craft supplies.
The top drawer has what I can only assume are little pin holders in the corners.
The rounded cabinet at the top is my favorite part. Stephanie is going to live there.
When I was cleaning the inside of the bureau, I found an old amusement park ticket to "Kiddieland" and a hat pin ~
I put up a few more detailed photos of the bureau
in my flickr if anyone is interested.
After we were done shopping, we went to
Amelia's Teas and Holly, a tea house on the same street as the antique shop. I've been there once with my mom and enjoyed it, so I was happy to return!
I ordered spinach quiche and iced tea (it was a bit too warm that day for me to enjoy hot tea) XD
Stephanie ordered the Queen's Tea-- a tower of sandwiches, scones, and desserts. There was so much food *nnnn*
It was nice to take some weekdays off to just relax like this ♥
