I just spent a really long weekend in New York City, starting on Friday night and ending early Tuesday morning. ♥ On Friday night I had a pretty miserable experience getting lost and soaked in the sudden rainstorm, but the night got much better when Zoh took a few of us to
The Red Party. I wore gothic style a lot in college but I was too shy to mingle with other goths, so going to an actual goth club was a new experience for me. Goth dancing is really fun and no one bothered us, which was really refreshing. I want to go again! When the night was over, we collapsed at Kelsey's and slept like the dead. XD
The next day, Stephanie and I got up pretty early and did some shopping on Steinway, and then transferred all our stuff from Kelsey's to Petrina's place. Petrina took us to a charming little crêpe shop called Cafe Marlene for a late lunch, where I had a delicious smoked salmon, brie, and roasted red pepper crêpe:
Then I had a berry sorbet for dessert:
Everything was so good... I really want to go again!
Then we went back to the apartment and watched The Craft (because you can never watch that movie too many times) while we got ready for Dances of Vice that night. I didn't get any photos from this event either because I was too busy dancing with Kelsey, the girls, and some nice strangers, but the theme was lovely! Who doesn't like Back to the Future??
The music was fantastic-- totally danceable, even the slow songs. Kelsey, thanks for swinging me around so much!! You're my dance inspiration ♥
The next morning, we went out for brunch at La Flor and I had a fantastic salmon and brie omelette (it was a salmon and brie weekend, apparently) and then headed out to Karaoke Shout for some gothic karaoke! We sang White Lies, Echo & the Bunnymen, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, and Malice Mizer with great aplomb, if I say so myself. XD After a few hours we all went out to Queens Kickshaw for some grilled cheese and then back to Petrina's to watch the original Fright Night:
Chris Sarandon's facial expressions were AMAZING. He had us imitating him the rest of the weekend! haha Now that I've seen the original, I want to see the remake so I can compare the two.
The next day after brunch, we went to see Pompeii: The Exhibit at Discovery Times Square and it was breath-taking. I wish they had allowed photos inside the exhibit! I definitely recommend it. The Living Social deal we used to buy our tickets included coupons for the Cake Boss cafe inside, so we combined them and bought two cakes (red velvet and chocolate mousse) to split later that day:
Then we went back to get ready for the Tokyo Rebel BtSSB tea party at Cha-An. I put Petrina's hair up in pin curls the night before so it looked like a fluffy cloud of curls! I wore a simple monochrome outfit-- black BtSSB jumperskirt + black and white striped vintage blouse-- and felt a little underdressed all night, unfortunately, but everyone else looked great. Here's Koda, Stephanie, and a little bit of Petrina on the train on our way to Cha-An:
Koda and Stephanie look so good together >:] creeps in between them forever
I didn't get any photos of the food, but it was a MAGNIFICENT spread. I've never eaten so much at a tea party before! There was quiche, teriyaki meatballs, some kind of green beans, tea-smoked salmon, squid, rice, dessert, and three kinds of tea @n@
The crowd included mostly lolitas I've never seen before, but I don't go to a lot of NYC meetups so maybe I just haven't run into these people before. It was nice to have a table of friends to sit with, though ♥ After tea, we walked over to Tokyo Rebel for the Misako skype session, which was just as funny and awkward as I'd hoped it would be. XD The skype cut out a few times, but we still got to ask a lot of questions. Misako looked really cute because she was in the middle of a BtSSB photoshoot >n<;;
Of course Aria was there in her Paris Windows jsk:
JENNNN I LOVE YOU AND YOUR CREEPER WAYS
There were several raffle prizes, including jewelry, socks, autographed copies of Misako's book, and a $300 gift certificate to Tokyo Rebel for the best coordinate of the night... and Bianca won it!!! She's such a boss in that long navy Hymn jsk, so it was totally deserved XDD At the end of the night, everyone who attended got a little gift bag with exclusive BtSSB wrist cuffs, jordan almonds, and some BtSSB postcards:
And here's a photo of my invitation and thank you note:
All in all, I think it was well worth the ticket price (still not the most expensive BtSSB tea party I've ever been too, js). I had a wonderful time ♥
When it was over, we all headed back to talk about the event and go to bed (Koda and I had to catch an early bus home the next day). I'm still recovering my energy, but what a lovely, lovely weekend.
