How come I can't seem to get it all done? I start out the weekend with the best of intentions, but inevitably, I get distracted by the 'little' things. You know, the 'little' things: A martini, an extra hour (or two) of sleep, freecell, sudoku, a movie. OK, so I admit I am a slacker, but I would bet that the rest of you struggle with this too.
The thing that saves me is my impulsiveness. Today, I got the drawer fronts for my bathroom vanity installed. So, naturally, I had to go to Home Desperate to buy knobs for them. While I was there I remembered that I had to get my new plants watered (tomato and pepper). So a detour to the plumbing aisle was required, and I still remembered the original reason for the shopping trip! Twelve dollars later, I had six knobs for the drawers and three new sprinkler attachments. I open one package with a knob (hardware included), and found that the screw is too short to fit all the way through the hole (talk about being 'screwed'). Looking through my various stashes of hardware (kitchen junk drawer, bathroom junk drawer, tool box, and finaly the harware organizer) I can't seem to find longer machine screws, which means that a second trip to Home Desperate is needed (no job is complete without three trips to the hardware store).
Ugh! I can't take another trip. I'll just do something else. Oh yeah, there are the plants to get wattered. Now I take the time to fix up the sprinkler system to include the tomato and pepper plants. Ah, it is done! I did not finish what I started out to accomplish, but I did finish something else, equally as important. Now I am justified to make that martini and relax a little bit. Ooh, I can play freecell to 'keep my mind sharp' while I drink my martini.
Then my husband calls and we talk for a long while. In the conversation, he recommends that I take a look at my email. After hanging up the phone, I take a look to see what excitement he has sent me. One of the emails was a reply to my last posting saying that I should post more often. OK, I guess I can reply to that. There is always tomorrow to go get the longer screws...
