Randomly over the last 9 years, my friend Shawn and I have argued about the same stupid thing a million times. Strangely enough it was the first conversation we ever had when we were like 14 and because it was so stupid it keeps coming back up. I havent talked to him in months and randomly he IMs me tonight and while trying to make a point about me ( Read more... )

It is entirely acceptable to cut a pizza if: a) it is too hot to eat straight up as sarah mentiond; and/or b)it is too large and floppy (and probably too hot) to eat with hands without it falling all in a big pile on your plate.

Under those conditions, use of fork and knife on pizza = totally cool. Does not even constitute loss of manhood in most circles. Until the pizza cools down, that is. Then, total loss of manhood ensues if forking continues.

The hot dog, however, is trickier. If there is a bun involved, never. That is the entire point of the bun. However, if the hot dog is bun-less, then fork and knife is okay. Furthermore, if baked beans are involved with a bun-less dog, cutting is required.

I think that unless you have a set condition for pizzas and hot dogs to be discussed in this argument, then you will never see it end. There are too many conditions which nullify the premises. If you said generally, "under normal conditions", I think that I'd have to say that cutting the hot dog would be more absurd, since it generally speaking has a bun and pizza generally speaking can be too hot at the beginning of a meal.

ok you may have a point.

I dont have a clue with the original conditions were in this conversation as i cant for the life of me remember why this conversation was even had...in physics class, my first week of high school, with a guy i had never met. Who knows.

I do remember that part of the issue was that he does not like buns. So when given a standard hot dog (in a bun) he has to go find a fork and knife so he can take it out and cut it. I also kind of bend your pizza rule in that I pretty much always cut my pizza. I think the only exception is if its a really small pizza or if there are no convenient utensils.

BUT I still think that i win. Because under most circumstances no one is ever going to look at my funny for cutting a pizza...where as he is going to get some looks for cutting the hot dog.
