Future LJ musings

Dec 29, 2016 13:51

So more people are publically leaving LJ for various reasons.  I generally have the same handful of people posting on my Friends List, with 90-95% of everyone else gone.  I do know some people who don't have or post on LJ reading this, and I'm relucatant to go to another place, make a whole other account, and tell everyone they'll have to do the ( Read more... )

I agree 100% with you.
Too many folks just assume I know they migrated to Twitter, FaceBook, Telegram or the social system of the week.
So I miss announcements because there's no email feed or forwarding service.
Every system is a "walled garden", keeping their emails and messages to themselves.
Some give me an email "login to see the messages from ..." such as LinkedIn and Meetup. I hate that.
I'm sorry, but I cannot spend time looking at different systems just to find nothing happened today.

Oh I am staying. How else can I vent and how else can I hear the real news of what my friends are thinking? Facebook is NOT private. Twitter is a mess. No one has come up with a replacement for LJ.

I'm still here as well. I still follow a few people who has also stayed with Livejournal, but it seems that most folks who used to post on here have left or lost interest. How I miss the old LJ of ten years ago. I don't care that the Russkis own LJ -- if they are searching for any "crucial data," they are bound to be disappointed since 90% of LJ is fandom stuff ( ... )

Had to think about this post a lot before replying. Myself, I've never been a social butterfly in any way shape or form. So for my part I joined LJ originally to follow information on Confurence years ago. I was of the generation of guys that were taught to hold in your private feelings and thoughts. So making post or chatting was not that necessary in my personal survival. Granted this has led to a lot of stress, so in the last few years I have been making up for lost time. That said my posts are not dependent upon viewer ship. I use my blog to expiate my excess emotion and de-stress. To that end I have not noticed any perceptive change in viewership or comments. Indeed I post solely for my sake not for the sake of communicating with people in general. So I'll stay on with LJ probably for a good long time unless there is some real issues with security or the ban me much like FB did a long time ago (FB refused to return any of the money I paid them for services). But I don't think there are any real long term solutions with ( ... )

I'll still be here. I've never had a Facebook account, nor do I ever plan on getting one. I still read everyone's posts here. I do want to get back to posting, but life has been busy lately, and plus, I'm still insecure about writing about my personal life, because it seems when I do, it gets re-posted on someone else's page.
