The heat is on, again.

Horribly, beastly hot here the past few days.  Well over 100.  I was supposed to take the car in again to get the overheating issue looked at yesterday, but Dwight was unexpectly called in to work a couple of full shifts yesterday and today, so i'm stuck at home carless until about 5 PM.  Not that I could really go anywhere even with the car.  As long as it's still having overheating issues when idling, i don't dare take it anywhere where I might get stuck in traffic.

Since it was free (you can't beat that price!) I did download that "other" griffin book for Kindle.  I didn't think it was anything like mine, and it wasn't.  As I've said previously, it had everything I was trying actively to avoid-- a lead character with mysterious parentage, mystical stuff, prophecies, and the ever-popular "I can't tell you what you need to know now because the time isn't right."  I should also warn people it doesn't have an ending, and it doesn't seem like there's any clue when the rest of it will appear.

I did finish the two antholgies i was given to read and review.  The review is written-- I just need to go through and fix some spelling and make a couple of corrections.  I'll be posting it here, and probably x-posting on Facebook.  The review was originally meant to be posted on Flayrah as well, so I'll have a link when it goes up there.

I have decided that I'm not going to do this again unless someone pays me.  It took an inordinant amount of time to read those anthologies and write up reviews of a couple dozen stories.  I've also had other people approach me for reviews of comics and graphic novels.  I'm not really sure why, because I tend to be a very blunt and harsh critic, but I can only think it's because I'm one of the few people that not only still reads, but can write a coherant paper about what I've read.

Of course, this is a mixed blessing, because while it sometimes means I get free stuff, what do I do if said free stuff is awful?  Sometimes I'm willing to do it if people will read my crap (since I get so little feedback) but I can't even really manage that.  If you don't read my work, how the hell can anyone tell if I even know what the fuck I'm talking about?

And then I got into a heated discussion with someone about wether my work is too cartoony.  A person was actively soliciting a commission on FA, but didn' tgive it to me because (stated reason) my work was too cartoony.  So they gave it to someone else who (IMHO) did a shitty job, just like I've recently seen a spate of shitty commissions that I know i could do better at.  I usually don't do the hyper-real stuff because it's a pain in the ass and takes a million years, and most people are too cheap to pony up $4-500 for a super-realistic peice.  But I've decided I will do a couple of small realism peices just as a big "fuck you" to the naysayers.

Sometimes anger is all you have left.
