[She knows he's there. No other way to explain it besides 'she sensed it'. There's just something about killing her that puts you on her radar. Either way, she doesn't even open an eye (he's far enough away that he isn't so dangerous yet), but her music does shift from happy and calm to slightly darker, more edgy. Call it 'hello'.]
[The change in the music causes him to laugh bitterly. He hadn't expected such a hello, but he liked it. He slowly approaches, not too close as to bring alarm, but not far enough that she could consider herself safe.]
[Her greeting pleased Kadaj? That's odd. Nothing about her pleases Kadaj. She makes sure not to appear worried as he approaches, continuing his song until the ending, when she lowers her panpipes to her lap and turns her eyes to the visitor, almost expectantly.
It's odd, how just the presence of either remnant makes her act just a little bit darker, herself.]
[He grins, forcing himself to hold back a deep chuckle. He hated Martel, everything about her, but he liked hating her. He liked having something to hate, he liked having a reason to hate.]
[A dry chuckle.] I've noticed. [After a moment, she tilts her head, genuinely curious.] Besides the obvious--[Her death, again.]--is there something you want?
Other than your death, absolutely nothing. [He doesn't even know why he bothered approaching her. There was nothing he wanted to say, nothing he wanted to do that wouldn't get him some blue-haired whiner after him. He gives a shrug of his shoulders.]
[She can't help but laugh once. It's not mocking or anything. She's genuinely amused by how casually they're discussing this.]
Perhaps. [As an afterthought:] But not here. [She doesn't mean that as a challenge, she means that as... he's watched like a hawk by the do-gooders, someone would stop him.]
[He raises a thin brow, squatting down just so he's eye level with her. Her words made something in him click, and he had to make a fist to keep from drawing Souba and ramming her through right then and there.]
[She knows what he's capable of. She knows what he wants and how badly he wants it. But at the same time... when it comes to this, face to face, eye to eye, she can't stop herself from saying the first thing to mind. In a low voice:] Because the heroes have you caged, and you know it.
Caged? [The word is hissed, and he grits his teeth as he smiles widely, his nose crinkling in anger.] Would you like me to show you just how mistaken you really are?
[And his next movement is swift, Souba is pulled from her sheath without warning.] I'll spill your blood again, Martel.
[But she's been practicing. The second Souba's out in the open, Martel's got her arms out and above her head (think ballerina-style but a: palms up, b: hands a little farther apart, and c: at more of a 45 degree angle rather than directly above her head).
This gesture causes a transparant shimmer (much like a bubble in appearance) to appear domed over where she's sitting. Her gaze is level. Is that the hinting of a triumphant smile quirking the corner of her mouth? It's hard to tell. But she's clearly not scared.]
I didn't come here to fight you, Kadaj. [It sounds almost scripted, though. She'd love to see him whale on her barrier for a little while so he isn't quite so smug.]
[The look on her face causes his insides to burn with rage, and he slams Souba against the transparent bubble, but it bounces back. He lets out a startled hiss, his grip tightening on the hilt before he takes another jab at it.]
Coward. [The word is forced through gritted teeth.]
So now it's cowardly to defend one's self. [She sounds skeptical. Secretly, she's thrilled that the barrier's working in action, but she's not gonna let that show on her face.]

Hello.

[She's not going to grin back. She doesn't know if she can grin dangerously. And besides, the presence of Kadaj shouldn't turn her into him.]

I'm full of surprises.
