I'm not actually getting on LJ much these days, but I played poker last night at the International Private Members Club in a Texas Hold'Em tournament and thought I should put something on here for once.
There were 64 people in the tourney, top 9 places got money. Things started off moderately well and the cards seemed to be going my way, at least from time to time, especially on the hand where I flopped a straight in the big blind and still had straight flush draw. Came close to doubling my stack of chips on that hand.
Things continued to go well until a hand where I had a 10-10 and the flop came 8-9-10. The guy in the blind called my initial raise and then bet big; I raised him all-in. He called. Turns out he had 7-7 and of course the Jack came and gave him a straight. After that I felt like I was short on chips the rest of the night. I managed a little bit of a recovery and thought I had a chance to make it to the final table, however, when we got down to about 15 people, i was pretty much the smallest stack. I played conservatively and folded a couple of hands that I probably would have won.
When we got down to 11 people, I only had 2 sets of blinds and antes left. In the big blind, I had 2-3. Flop came 2-3-10, with two diamonds. I bet all-in and got called by one of the big stacks; turns out that he had the flush draw, and the diamond came on the river and that was that. Disappointing to make it that far and not make the final table. Oh well. There seemed to be a number of good players in the game and I felt like I held my own pretty well. I wish I had a better short-stack playing ability.
Also I went on a jogging tour of the various of London's parks today. It went pretty well. I was the only person that signed up for this tour so I got a personalized one. Hope was very nice and we took a bit more than an hour to run through St. James and Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
