I stumbled across this place last time when I was here. It is
Rules Restaurant. Several things of note:
1. When you have no idea how much insulin to take, usually take too much. This rule has served me well in many cases. When you are having alcohol, this is especially true. Unfortunately, that rule did not work this time. Fortunately, I carry a ready supply of Lifesavers with me and the hotel was not very far away either.
2. The service was impeccable. Even though, I knew I was severely underdressed in general for such a place, the wait staff did not batt an eyelid. In addition, Piotr (name was on the receipt) was extremely knowledgeable and his recommendations worked very well for me.
3. The food was excellent if pricey. The roe deer loin was amazing. The stilton and plum topping was excellent. The small yet yummy salad of wilted chicory and pear was delicious. The honey roasted parsnips were just the thing to set off the dinner. Oh, and I forgot that I had the special wild mushroom soup, which was so good I could have stopped right there and just had more of that.
4. Did I mention how good the food was?
Everything was cooked just right, I think. I could have lived without the Famous Grouse and Ginger cocktail, although I enjoyed it. I do wish they had had the green cider that was on the menu but Piotr said they had been out of it for two weeks.
I would have liked to try the cheese sampler for dessert, but just couldn't bring myself to do so. I was quite full. The wild mushroom soup was very yummy and unlike anything I've ever had before. The colors were very unflattering, sort of grayish-brown and then they added some sort of herb infused oil. The waiter said what it was when I asked but I was too embarrassed to ask him for clarification when he told me what it was. I'm not sure if it is a term I'm unfamiliar with, his accent, or both.
Now I just need to monitor my sugar until it settles down.
