Secure your LJ account

Days just fly by. At least this time I started to think about posting before 11:15 p.m. This NaBloPoMo thing might be good for me after all. This might be a very good time for a Public Service Announcement. Please do spread this information, link around, whatever you want to do - the account you save could be your friend's.

I recommend you go in and remove any old emails that you've ever used with your LiveJournal account. First, you should select the oldest email on that list that you have control over, and change your email address to that one. Once you've validated it, you'll be able to go in and remove any newer email addresses (any email added after the one you selected). For security reasons, the first-validated email cannot be removed at this time.

And if you're unable to click and select any of these email addresses? Is this because I'm not running Windows?

For security reasons, you can only delete emails that are newer than your currently validated one. So you will need to make sure that a) you're using an older email than the one you want to delete and b) that you change the email on your account to that one, get the email with the validation link and click it.

Even if you aren't currently using your old email accounts, you might be able to get it back, if it's a web-based email service. You should try to sign in with any password you might have used, do a "lost password" reset on their service, or possibly email with their support department about getting it back.

I don't *think* that not running Windows should affect which ones you can delete. If you've changed to an older email, and clicked the email validation link, the boxes should be un-grayed. If they're not, please go ahead and open a Support Request and people much more knowledgeable than me will be able to help you out.

I can't even click in the box. Any of them. They aren't greyed, but I can't click in them, or do anything else. Will definitely be opening a support ticket because I'd just like to clean that list up out of general principal. ;-)

You cannot delete the very first one. You can, however, delete ones that are no longer valid *after* the very first one, but to do so, you must switch back to the very first one. The goal is to have as few as possible invalid email addresses associated with your account.

This was changed today - try going here and removing the old ones.

There was a change today that might help you out. Now, if you have an email address in use for six months straight, that one is un-removable. You can go here and try to remove the old ones again - will you let me know if that doesn't work?
