So, I got the book at the midnight release by my house. I got it at about 1 AM but Jamie was with me and was on the waiting list so I had to wait another hour for her. I did go sort of in costume. I store-bought Gryffindor cloak over a Harry Potter T-shirt and jeans. I got the regular, deluxe, and audio editions. Yes, too much money, but it was all 40% off! I started reading at 2 when I got home, went to bed at about 4:30 because my eyes were hurting, woke up at nine and read all day. Unfortunately, I had interruptions- cleaning, taking brother and sister to driving. And said siblings bothering me just to distract me... grr. Still, I think I finished at about 7 PM.
SPOILERS!!!
Overall, I really liked the book. It's definitely my favorite, at least now, of the series. I've since reread it a second time and listened to a little of the audio book, but not all. There were a few parts that were slow- in the tent, Shell Cottage. No biggies. I really loved the growth of the trio- especially Ron. He started to become more sensitive and for once became appealing to me. I finally started to see what Hermione sees in him. He did leave but he came back and was good for the rest. And he finally understood Hermione's deal with the house-elves. I loved the kiss. Of course it had to be near the end of the last book, but whatever. Nice scene. I'm glad it had a happy ending too. I cried A LOT.
Favorite things:
-The kiss, haha
-The Silver Doe chapter
-Kingsley's Patronus coming to the wedding
-The whole ending thing starting when Harry got back to Hogwarts- getting the diadem in the Room of Requirement (Crabbe talked! and died), the battle, sacrificing himself
-Dumbledore's history- WTF so unexpected and awesome. I never was too crazy about Dumbledore like some fans but I didn't think he was this much of a dick. He was pretty much using Snape and Harry the whole time but he messed up when he started to love Harry. Sad story with his family. Feel bad for him.
-Malfoy Manor- Hermione being tortured, Wormtail's death was done perfectly. I'm glad he didn't get a heroic redemption scene or anything, didn't deserve it.
-NEVILLE kicked ass!! Love him.
- MOLLY kicked ass!! Love her too.
Least favorite:
-Lupin and Tonks' deaths. Okay, I know these were the two she didn't originally intend to kill, and that not everyone can have a dramatic death scene, but it just felt soo tacked on. I did like dead Lupin's line to Harry when he had the stone though. I wish Fred and Tonks had been there as well, but I guess "The Marauders and Lily" or whatever fit, I dunno.
- Not enough Ginny. Harry should have interacted with her a little more at the end. What was up with all the build-up of her in the previous two books when she didn't actually do much, on-screen at least? Major let-down for me.
- Epilogue- Cheese-tastic!!! I'm also curious why she chose 19 years precisely for it, but that's not a big deal. The names of the kids were also lame. Albus Severus? I understand the reasoning behind it, but why would Harry set his kid up to be teased like that?? Poor kid! And Hugo, blegh. I know Rose and Hugo, Ron and Hermione, R and H, or whatever... but couldn't they have given him another H name? Henry? Hugh? Hugo is yucky sounding.
- No resolution between the ending and the epilogue. Really left hanging. He should have gone and seen the others, been with Ginny... Baaaa
I'm so sad it's over. I'm glad she's writing an encyclopedia. I want to know everything she didn't tell us, damn bitch! Just kidding. Dobby's death was the saddest, then Fred's. Why did Fred have to die? Couldn't she have killed Arthur instead? Or Percy? Charlie? Bill? NOT FRED!!! Waaaaaaa...
