ok. so the only thing i can say about Colombia is this:
magical.
i just got back from a ten day trip to colombia to meet my colombian stepfamily for the first time. my step mother got recently reunited from her father after 30 years in october when they went down there to meet him, and i got to meet him this time. i have a papito now (grandfather) and i had the time of my life. i traveled all over, saw rainforest, lived like a native colombian, non of the tourist stuff, ate the most amazing food, spoke spanish the whole time so i was able to practice (i have a goal to speak two languages) and meet an amazing group of people (new family) who are warm, inviting, polite, and love to have fun. i danced, drank, all night with amazing people, i slept underneath the stars, i stayed on a farm where ten of my step aunts killed a pig and made everything from scratch.
no tv, no cell phones, no computer, and it was FANTASTIC.
i was the only blue eyed blondie as far as the eye could see so in public i was the exotic one. pretty interesting. i saw poverty, beauty, i experienced a new bonding with my father and got to re kindle my relationship with my step sister and step mother, and most of all i laughed and drank the culture
. i had the time of my life and whats even better is that i will return!
it is sad that colombia has such a bad rep, but what people have to realize is that that is not what colombia is. certain parts and aspect live up to that rep, but such a finite part of it. i never felt unsafe, and all i saw was beauty. it is a wonerful country that should be visited. (they love americans too)
so now it's christmas. i just go back last night, (well xmas eve) i hope everyone is doing well and please call me! i miss my friends.
feliz navidad
