Yesterday I took a trip upstate New York. . . near Poukeepsie. One of my best friends from third grade has a brother who was rear ended by a big four by four and is now paralyzed for the rest of his life. Fortunately he has the use of his hands and arms and is able to breathe on his own. He's in one of those huge motorized wheelchairs It was so amazing what good spirits he was in. . . though I'm sure he has his dark times. He has to. I've know this family since she and I were eight years old. It was so sad to see.
Anyway, it took me about 3.5 hours to get there, what with the distance and traffic. I didn't mention it but, this was a surprise visit. I never told my girlfriend. I simply asked her what time she planned on being there so I could surprise him with a phone call. However since it took me longer to get there , she called me first and wanted to talk. I told her I was driving (true) and that I would call back soon. She said I should hurry because they wanted to leave. . . now that would have spoiled my plans, so I had to tell her that I was only 15 minutes away and she needed to wait for me. Of course she did.
Then this brainiac thought that instead of driving back home at night and at rush hour, I might just go visit my daughter who lives in NJ and that would only have been less than two hours driving. It turns out she was in Boston on business and my granddaughters were with their father, at his house.
Plans needed to be made for the night and fast. So, since I was there, my friend, MaryAnn (#2) said we will both go to my other brothers' house (his wife was there, but he was not because he didn't feel well. So that's what we did. It took 90 minutes to get there. We stopped for dinner on the way. And then after spending a pleasant evening with them. . . she and I left this morning. . . both in different directions. She lives in the Berkshires in Pennsylvania. . . her sister-in-law and brother live in Digman's Ferry. . . Took me about three hours to get home, but at least it was in daylight. Now, I'm going to bed, per chance to sleep.
