Christians in India are feeling the heat of persecution again in Orissa, where Graham Staines and his two small male children were torched in a jeep earlier. Christmas for the Christians turned into an experience of sorrow as Hindu fundamentalists killed one person, injured several and burned many churches down to the ground. The death toll may actually be higher. The attacks occurred in four villages and the persecuted have fled to camps for refuge. According to their attackers their major sin is, purportedly, the acts of conversion done by Christian missionaries.
The world watches. No one can do much to stop all this. Except pray and forgive the miscreants and perpetrators of such horrific crimes and continue to believe that the blood of the martyrs is the seed from which the church will rise again and again, more and more triumphant. A belief that is by no means in vain.
