So, today I went to the station, and after washing the salt and bird shit off my winterized car, I started to work on my essay for english. At a little before three we got a fire call, I was kinda hesitant because we didn't have many people there, but I went down, and the tower went out, and then 2 people came for the engine, plus me.
I kinda expected to get cancelled and turn back around- but for the first time, there was actually a fire. A two-alarm apartment fire to be exact. I was throwing ladders, holding ladders, grabbing tools, and at the end finding all the tools. It was pretty cool- oh, and I got pelted with roof fragments and soaked with water- that's why we wear turn-out gear and helmets.
It was pretty cool- it even made the news
http://wjz.com/local/local_story_353152218.html So yea... it was awesome. I can't wait to go through firefighter 1. Then I can actually go in and fight the fire- but there still need to be people on the outside to hold the ladders and run hoselines and such- few people are needed to go in.
Haha- I'm very excited- I haven't been on a working fire for the entire time I've been at Pikesville.
