Room 122 - Thursday Afternoon

Jun 22, 2006 17:23

Veronica was relaxing in her room after her self defense lesson with Cameron. It was entirely too hot and humid to leave the comfort of her air-conditioned room until she absolutely had to.

And besides, Barbossa's radio show was on.

Her door was propped open and she was lounging on the love seat.

[primarily for Anakin; but open to all]

Anakin walked past Veronica's door, shirtless and covered in dirt.

"Hey!" he said, poking his head in.

"Hey," Veronica replied, managing a half-hearted wave. "This weather sucks. You can come in if you want. There's cold water in the fridge."

"Thanks," Anakin replied, walking in and heading for the fridge. "I kind of love this weather," he admitted. "But I grew up in the desert, so I'm a little biased."

"I don't usually mind the heat," Veronica said. "But this hot coupled with the humidity. Blah."

She struggled to sit up and gestured to a chair if Anakin wanted to sit. "What were you up to?" she asked, taking in his appearance.

"I don't want to get dirt all over the chair," Anakin said, sprawling out on the floor instead. "I was finishing up a swoop bike for the flight workshop tomorrow." He grinned and wiped at his forehead, leaving a smug of dirt across it. "Practical flying--make sure that they can work something that's not a simulation before we head to Coruscant."

"Sounds interesting," Veronica said. "You're taking them next week, right?"

Anakin nodded, then took a drink from the bottle of water. "That's the plan. Obi-Wan's off-world at some kind of negotiation, but there are plenty of other Jedi who have lined up to make sure I won't accidentally blow anyone up." He wrinkled up his nose. "Like I would."

"Given some of the people you're taking? I think the Jedi should be more concerned about students blowing things up," Veronica commented wryly.

It did however, remind her that she had wanted to talk to Anakin.

"Hey, speaking of blowing things up, did you hear the radio the other night?"

Anakin nodded, looking serious. "Tyler, right?"

"Yeah," Veronica nodded. "He's got a lot of problems. I told him that I, along with some other people, would be keeping an eye on him."

"You want to add me to the list?" he asked. He smiled. "I have a good friend who would be a little unhappy with me if Tyler blew up the library while she was away."

Veronica gave him a look that suggested she suspected Rory was more than just a good friend, but she didn't say anything about that.

"I gathered that from her radio broadcast," Veronica said. "And, yes, I would like to add you to that list. Do you know Tyler?"

Anakin had gotten very good at ignoring those kinds of looks. He nodded. "I've met Tyler. He's a normal human, right? No superspeed or strength or, I don't know, ability to turn into cheese spontaneously that I'd need to know about?"

"No, according to his medical records, he's a normal human," Veronica said. "But one with a lot of fighting experience and explosives knowledge."

She recalled the fight between Anakin and Angel and the bruises Angel had sustained from it. "I'm pretty sure you can handle yourself against him."

Anakin made a face. "Fun combination," he said. "Anything to indicate he doesn't want to make a clean start here?"

"He told me and Bel that he doesn't want to hurt anyone," Veronica said. "He seemed sincere. And he didn't seem to have an issue with knowing that people would be watching him."
