Room 122 - Sunday Evening [after DC trip]
With everything that's been going on lately, Veronica nearly forgot today was Father's Day. Luckily, the time zone difference works in her favor.
"Happy Father's Day," she says as soon as her dad answers the phone.
"Thanks, honey. I was wondering if you'd forgotten about me."
Veronica rolls her eyes. "It's not even four there yet," she reminds him. "And I left here early this morning. One of the other instructors and I took our workshop students to Washington DC for the day."
"Oh, that sounds nice. Did you have fun?" Keith asks.
"Yes, I did. And no one got arrested."
There's a pause. "Was that actually a concern, Veronica? What kind of kids are you teaching?"
Veronica sighs. "It was a joke, Dad." Sort of.
"Well what else have you been up to? Staying out of trouble, I hope."
"Yes. I've been working at Caritas and teaching my workshop. And spending time with Archie."
"How's he doing? Treating you well still? I don't want to have to come out there."
"Everything's fine, Dad. He's really great."
Keith makes a noise, but doesn't say anything. "As long as you're happy, honey."
"I am. Oh! And one of my friends is giving me self defense lessons," Veronica tells him.
"Good. You need to learn how to take care of yourself." There's some noise on the other end of the line and Veronica can hear a muffled conversation. "Honey, I have to go. Alicia has some surprise for me today."
Veronica's amused. "Okay, Dad. I love you."
"Love you, too, sweetie."
She shakes her head as she hangs up the phone and wonders if her dad is ever going to pop the question.
