East Attic - Friday 10 AM, then Neptune

May 05, 2006 08:05

Veronica was sitting anxiously on the sofa, a small bag of toiletries at her feet, still clad in her pajamas. She was not looking forward to facing Aaron Echolls in a court room. For one thing, he would know she was still alive and that might put her in danger again. For another, she knew how important her testimony would be to getting him convicted and she didn't want to screw up.

Days like this she wished she was a drinker. She wondered if Nadia could get some special brownies later.

Just before 10:00 AM, Bel headed across the attic to the east side. He knocked on the door and waited.

"It's open," Veronica called. She was starting to wonder if that third cup of coffee had maybe been a bad idea.

Bel opened the door and walked into the room. "You're not dressed," he said with a trace of a smirk.

Veronica facepalmed, remembering the previous night. "Shut up," she said, her cheeks tinged with pink. "I'm going to shower and get dressed there."

"We're not going to run into your dad, are we?" Bel asked. "Because I don't think he'd be too happy to see some guy show up with his daughter in her pajamas."

"No," she said, shaking her head. "He's meeting me at the apartment at eight. He's practically moved in with his girlfriend."

"I'll do my best to be scarce by then," Bel said. "Probably don't want to stick around much anyway because the last time I was in the area...." He let the words die. The last time he'd been there had been while taking Logan and Angelus to visit Logan's father.

"You don't have to stick around at all," Veronica said. "I'll be fine."

"Just be careful," Bel warned. "He may think you're dead but he might have contingency plans. Stick close to your dad or something."

It was weird how he'd gone from trying to kill Veronica to being so protective of her. Part of it was guilt and repentence, part of it was because he knew she meant something to Angel, and part was because of Grissom's parting words to him -- to keep an eye on her.

Veronica gave him a weak smile. "You really think my dad is going to let me out of his sight?" she asked. Bel was acting weird and she was really hoping he wasn't trying to join the legion of overprotective males in her life.

"I wouldn't if I were him," Bel said. Him, an overprotective male? Not at all. Really.

He held out his hand. "Ready?"

Veronica sighed. "Ready as I'm gonna be," she said, grabbing the small bag at her feet before standing up and taking his hand.

Bel concentrated on where he wanted to go and shimmered them out of the attic. Crossing distance was easy. Crossing dimensions took a little more care. Being already familiar with the dimension made it less difficult, however. He let Veronica's impressions of home guide him, and a few moments later they reappeared in her bedroom in Neptune.

"Woah," Veronica said, blinking a few times and sitting down on her bed. "That was a little different than going from my room to Angel's or from town to the dorms," she said.

"Yeah, it's a little rougher crossing dimensions," Bel said. "Time's even worse, but not many demons can do that."

It took a few more moments before the dizziness subsided. "Thanks," Veronica said. "I'll call you later. I'm not sure how long I'll be stuck in court and my dad said something about grabbing dinner afterwards. Will you be around?"

"Don't have any plans to go anywhere," Bel said. "Give me a call and I'll come pick you up."

Veronica nodded. "Thank you," she said again.

"No problem," Bel said. "See you later tonight." He shimmered out of the room.

[ooc: Pre-played, no IC interaction possible. Veronica's off island all day as I'm mostly AFK due to work and going to see RENT! V & I will both be back tonight in time to do radio.]
