16 [Voice]

[The voice that comes over the network is soft and hoarse, as if it hasn't been used in awhile. There's a distinct quiver in the tone, as if the person had been crying, but it was now under control... just barely.]

Where is Usagi and --

[And here, Rei's voice catches, but she presses onward, her tone adopting a new form of anger that hasn't been ( Read more... )

needs a priority readjustment, i quit my dayjob, usagi is the sweet one, evil: who needs it?, shinto priestess by day, wants her pcd back, stupid shinigami, that is a lot of blood, failure is not an option, aizen is a douchebag, you fail the 'not evil' test, this really hurts, this is not good, friends = family, death is but the next adventure

Talk to Tsukino.

[She doesn't answer that, because quite frankly, she doesn't know if she can. So have a lengthy silence, Toushirou, as she struggles with that.

When she does speak, she sounds tired.]

Were you hurt?

[Yeah, well he can't exactly afford to try again. Do keep her away from any sharp objects for a while, please.]

I've been healed. Talk to Tsukino.

I'm talking to you right now.

[She's silent for a beat before switching on the video feed, keeping it trained above her shoulders. It's shaking a little bit; her hands are trembling.]

Bring me to the clinic.

[It's another few seconds before he switches to video too, just to prove to her to that he's fine. But despite everything that's happened, likely because of it, he doesn't bother saying no.]

Fine.

Thank you.

[A pause.]

And hurry. I'm not getting any younger, Toushirou.

[Stop looking like that, Hitsu, she's gonna think you died, too.]

Not younger. Just louder.

[And with that dry comment, he catches her energy signature and makes his way over. Just a little slower than max speed. She can wait a few seconds.]

[She'll be sitting on a rock, arm around her waist, staring at the ground, her most grievous injuries healed. She doesn't look over when he arrives.]

How long was I gone?

[He just keeps walking until he's standing next to the rock, arms crossed.]

Roughly six days.

[She's silent for a long moment, to absorb that information. Six days. Her shoulders shudder for a moment; at first, it's uncertain whether or not she's crying or laughing, until a laugh escapes. It sounds hollow.]

I can't feel them anymore, Toushirou.

[It's whispered.]

I don't feel anything. I let Usagi die and they took away the one useful thing I had in this stupid, stupid place, and I didn't even get the chance --

[And she kicks a small rock away from them, furious. Childish, maybe, but it makes her feel slightly better.]

[He listens quietly until he realizes what she's talking about. She's lost her ability to sense the animus. His teeth clench, but he's had enough of his own outbursts. He can force himself to stay calm.]

...You found someone else with similar abilities. He may be able to sense them in your stead.

That isn't the point!

[Her fingers dig into her knees as she forces herself to stand. It takes a moment, but she does it, hands shaking as she smooths out her ruined shirt, cursing to herself as her palms come away bloody. For a moment, she looks helpless, like she doesn't know what to do with herself.]

They -- forced me -- to transform back. [And her tone is trembling; it's not the price, it's the sense of violation.] I didn't die this way. -- I don't even remember dying, I just remember the -- him, and Usagi, and he had her by the neck --

He killed her.

[He says it for lack of anything else to say, but unlike with Tsukino he doesn't intend to keep talking about it. He's just putting it out there in case she doesn't realize it so that Hino won't have a heart attack when Tsukino talks about it.]

I know he killed her, I watched it happen. He killed her and he laughed.

He was right down the street from us the entire time. The entire time! And I didn't even notice. And now he's met Usagi and he can sense where Usagi is --

[She begins to stalk towards the clinic -- or where she thinks the clinic is, at any rate, but her rapid walk slows almost instantly at the stiffness of her joints, and the pain of her injuries. Cue frustrated hiss.]

And he took away the only thing that could've helped us here and he didn't even have the decency to stay alive long enough for me to wipe the smirk off of his face!

[Hey. Tsukino didn't remember. He's just covering the bases.

He follows her silently. No point in trying to stop her. If she can walk, let her walk. If she wants to rant, let her rant. Experience tells him to keep him mouth shut about his own opinions unless absolutely necessary.]

[... this. This gives her pause. Normally, Toushirou would say something. Anything. Point out that she was being stupid. Remind her that she should be grateful she's alive. Argue. Something.

Which causes her to slow for a moment to look at the shinigami, temporarily distracted. The first thing he had said to her wasn't 'Took you long enough' or 'What did I tell you about Aizen?' or even 'You're alive'.

It was about Usagi. Which concerns her immediately.]

You told me to talk to Usagi. Why?
