Hey, Adstringendum. I've got a question.
[Rei is sitting in a chair, in Castiel's impromptu study, with a worn book in her hands. An anthology of ghost stories. And, because of simple curiosity:]
Do you believe in ghosts?
[Scientists? What scientists? Fran is going to handle that part.]
i see dead people,
studying the spirits,
field trip to see the scientists,
so not crazy,
i want to relax dammit,
shinto priestess by day,
ghost stories are super lame

Your world's terminology isn't exactly standard.

[He scoffs though.]
The notion of ghosts is laughable, however, even in a different world. It denotes some sort of- higher plane of existence.

[Rei arches her eyebrows.]
Maybe you just haven't poked around enough.
[She's only poking and prodding to make him irritated.]

Despite this world and all the ramifications, I have never believed in a higher power and I don't intend to start now. Spirits can aspire to be gods and imitate people who have passed, but after death is a cessation of being- nothing more, nothing less.

[After listening to him with complete and rapt attention:]
In my world, that's wrong.

And in mine, it isn't. It seems to simply be a difference of realities.

[She is stubborn to the last. But she acknowledges his point with half a grin, and a wave of her hand.]
Regardless, the ideas are interesting.
A lot of people here still don't believe.
Reply
[Raising an eyebrow.]
I haven't seen any ghosts here yet- simply spirits with no master.

[A slight amend.]
A lot of people don't believe in life after death.

[Seriously, John, it looks like you can't open your mouth without saying something insensitive. And Unohana has a lot of patience.]

He doesn't mean to put his foot in his obnoxious large mouth, Unohana-san.
