I'm back into blogging, but I'm not doing it on LJ or marstek.net. Here's where to go to keep tabs on me.

It requires a Vox account to comment and read private posts, but it has everything I write in one spot.

This one only has my public posts, but you only need a Google account to comment on them. It also makes for easy feeding @ http://blog.marsers.com/atom.xml

There is a method behind this madness, and if you care, then read the...

Why not keep using marstek.net? Honestly, I was never very happy with that website. I just launched my new personal page at http://marsers.com and needed a way to have my public blog posts integrated with that website. Since I already decided to ditch the ExpressionEngine platform, Blogger seemed like a natural choice. It's free, it's Google, and I can host it directly on my domain. Simple and painless integration with my website for everyone to see. The fact that you can use your Google account to post comments is a very big plus because everyone should have Gmail or something by now, so that allows commenting without registering a brand new (and useless) account.

At this point, I was still faced with the problem of private posts (Blogger has no privacy controls). Obviously there are things I'd like to post about that I don't need recruiters or bosses seeing. I considered LJ as my goto option. However, LJ seems quite dated in the range of features that it offers, and you have to pay for any of the cool stuff. The real killer was I wanted to be able to import my public blog into my private blog. That way I have everything I write in one place. LJ deals with feeds very poorly in my opinion, so I've got to find something else.

Interestingly, the solution came from another Six Apart product: Vox. It's free, lightweight, and met my requirements for privacy and syndication. It strikes me as a mix between LJ and Facebook... it's a blog with some Web 2.0 features. Why not use Vox exclusively if it's so great? There's no easy way for me to integrate it into my website... it may seem like a minor issue, but it was kind of important for me to have a blog ON my website. Furthermore, it's really easy to import Blogger posts into Vox (on the order of a few extra clicks).

I'd encourage yall using LJ to check out Vox. If you end up getting a Vox account, let me know so I can friend you there.

Now you know where to find me... Later, LJ!
