The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show :D

Something I just realized? I really just.. generally enjoy watching old Rocky & Bullwinkle clips. Here's one now!

I love the writing and vocal work. That "old lady" voice that June Foray invented will always be dear to my heart (she also does Rocky and Natasha). I'm also really in to one of the male voices (don't know the actor) that they use for some generic characters... the same voice a lot of Hanna-Barbera lead animals seem to sound similar to. I'm sure the voice I'm thinking of is someone's impersonation of a big radio star of the time. Gotta find out who that is. I'm trying to find a clip with that voice in it, but I can't! FFF! I hope I get a chance to use both voices in my own shows some day... different actors, of course :( Once again I wish I could have been an artist in the 50's.

Anyway, yeah. I watched a lot of RnB as a kid. I found it funny then, and now as an adult I'm getting all sorts of higher brow laughs out of it. J Edgar Bloomer of the FPI? XP Gah. I can't help but smile. I guess that really isn't that high brow, but still... that was an over-the-head when I was a kid, for sure. And again I stress that I enjoy all of the vocal work, even the narrator. These guys are masters of comedic timing.

I'm just bringing this show to light right now because I spend a lot of time raging about how much Hanna-Barbera cartoons suck, yet I love Rocky & Bullwinkle. I appreciate the job market boom and history that 'ol HB brought to the table... but come on. Even as a kid I couldn't stand Flintstones, Jetsons, and especially Scooby Doo. It was never funny, and it never looked good. Rocky & Bullwinkle is actually drawn or animated WORSE for the most part, but the rest of the show's design is just so snappy, it keeps it afloat. That Wikipedia quip about it being more like a " well-written radio program with pictures" is spot-on.

I think a DVD purchase might be in my future. Anyone up for watching it with me?
