"1.) No hate. No bashing. None of any sort will be tolerated." (italics mine)
I don't remember the exact wording of the original "warning" but I do remember that I was put off by it, and found it distasteful. I don't think it's a stretch to say that warning or apologizing for the presence of a character or relationship in the way the author did- as if their mere *presence* is offensive and on par with triggering and or violent/sexually explicit material- could be construed by some (like, say, myself) as character hate or bashing.
You may disagree, but this is a comm, not a personal journal. The author has a right to write whatever they think, but when you join a comm you are implicitly agreeing to follow the rules in your posts to that commMaybe you think the rules shouldn't apply to you, but, again, I respectfully disagree. Props to the author for editing their post instead of being a jerk about it ( ... )

"It was only when I got an annoyed response that I realized that they were serious."
And the issue I had was that when you realized that the poster was serious- i.e., that they had a different opinion than you about the warning- (that it was offensive towards another character, which, again, I had a problem with b/c it's against the comm rules), your response was to say that expressing that opinion was being "controlling" and "passive aggressive". Which I find interesting considering that your previous comment was implying that trying to censor opinions is wrong. ( ... )

BTW, if you're curious about a 'shipper's answer to your question, it's this: He did love her, but he thought she'd be happier with his mortal, half-human self. That's why he let her go. Also because he's a coward about the whole "wither and die" thing. YMM, as always, V.
