Spiralled 3's Birthday Present

Mar 17, 2005 10:39

My dear friend spiralleds had a birthday yesterday. She asked that I write her a little story as a gift, so I did, especially for her.

She requested something with Angel and Spike with it being Dru's birthday... I think there was a "fun, light-n-fluffly" in there somewhere. Thinking the muse didn't feel to witty today, sorry Spi, but its not bad...."

I'll just let you judge for yourself.

Now my disclaimers.... 1) This story is unbeta'd which makes me hugely nervous, but since Spi is one of my betas...you get the picture. 2) I have never written Dru before and I kind of brain farted, so be gentle.

I think that's it!

Now without further ado....

“You’re not getting her anything,” Angel said, exasperated.

“Who died and made you my bloody boss?” Spike demanded.

Angel just looked at him. “Did you forget you have a soul now? I don’t care if she’s back in town. You know what kind of birthday presents she likes, Spike. Puppy hearts and virgins. Not something I’m going to let you give her.” Angel sat back down behind his desk. “I think you should just stay away from her, period.”

Spike stormed up to Angel’s desk. “It’s Dru, Angel. She’s family, not like we can forget her birthday… I can’t forget her birthday.”

“Exactly, it’s Dru. Last time I checked she was still evil.”

“She’ll listen to me. I’ll find her a present that doesn’t involve… puppies or virgins and then make sure she goes on her merry way.”

“Fine!” Angel shouted, standing up, nose to nose with Spike. “You find her something that doesn’t involve killing anything and then tell her to leave.” Angel’s glare settled on Spike. “If she does anything and I mean anything while she’s here. I will personally stake her. Got it?”

Spike rolled his eyes. “Yeah. Right.”

It didn’t take Spike long to find her, Drusilla being his sire and all. Somewhere in the back of his mind, Spike was happy to see her; it had been awhile. He found her, not a surprise, dancing by moonlight, in a cemetery, just outside L.A.

“Oooh, Spike, its my birthday. The stars are singing to me. Can you hear them?”

Spike approached her slowly. “They only sing to you, pet.”

Drusilla stopped dancing. “Why is that? Is there something wrong with me?”

Spike realized Dru was having a fleeting moment of clarity and he didn’t want to do anything to upset her. An upset Dru could be more than one souled vampire could handle.

“Because you’re special, love. That’s why the stars sing to you and only you.”

Drusilla smiled and seemed to float over to where Spike stood. “Did you bring mummy a present? It’s my birthday you know.”

“That’s why I’m here, Dru. To bring you a birthday present.”

Clapping, Drusilla asked, “I love presents. What did you bring, Spike? Tell mummy what you brought her.”

Spike reached into his pocket, brought out a little box, and handed it to her. “Wanted to get you something to show you how special you are, Dru.

Drusilla, like an eager child, grabbed the box out of Spike’s hand and opened it, her wide-eyed expression being one of surprise and not anger. “Blood red, sparkling crimson by starlight.”

Drusilla pushed the two karat ruby ring onto her finger, dropping the box in the process. She began spinning around, the moon making her shine, the cemetery her own private stage.

Shortly thereafter, she stopped spinning and began to sway. “My Spike, beaming with a soul like daddy, didn’t forget mummy on her birthday. So mummy will be good, and leave her shining Spike...” She stopped talking and looked beyond Spike, a wide smile appearing on her face. “…with her shining daddy.”

Spike followed Drusilla’s gaze and saw Angel, arms crossed, leaning against a tree. Their eyes met, Angel acknowledged Spike with a small nod, and then walked away.

When Spike turned back to Drusilla, she was gone.~ End ~
