you can't force them to do what you want and even if they do quit, they might start again in the future. it's just like any addiction. you need to decide if you can live with it or not and weigh the consequences of leaving. if you have children together, you might decide to just accept it. smoking is a dealbreaker for many couples. my husband was willing to marry a smoker, but he wasn't willing to have children with a smoker. I think that was fair. I was smoke free for a year before we tried to have kids and I haven't smoked since I quit 7 years ago.
you have to think about what you want your life to be like. is it compatible with being with a smoker?
No it's not compatible being with a smoker. Absolutely not. Which is why I hope he will quit for us...and our marriage but you're right....if he doesn't want to give it up, then it's a risk of starting over and over again and the lies which follow.
Yea...that's a big deal to me. The lies about it which I to a degree can understand. I mean....if he told me, I'd get upset so he feels like he would rather ask forgiveness than permission which is what a lot of people do. Ugh.....I'm trying to work on the ways I respond to him and such but sometimes...he just doesn't give me a chance to see how I would respond. He assumes the absolute worst.
