Failed Root Canal

Nov 07, 2008 16:10

I hope none of you ever has to hear a dentist diagnose you with those three little words...

I was told that about 30% of root canals fail after the 10 to 15-year mark. My root canal - at least the one in question (I have 3) - just happened to be 15-years old. If they make it beyond the 15-year mark without any problems, they usually stay that way for good.

Lucky me - I made the cut...

I've gone through a bit in my life, and I like to think of myself as not too much of a pain wuss, but the root canal reconstruction was almost more than I could handle. I also haven't felt anything so immediate and overwhelming as a raw nerve violation. I don't ever want to feel anything like that again.

The reconstruction was just step 2 of a 5 step procedure for me, and I still have the last two phases to go through. It can't end soon enough...
